CA Educator: Algebra Is a ‘Civil Rights’ Issue. Get Rid Of It.

Interviewed on National Public Radio, a chancellor of the California community college system argued that since it may be too difficult for students, algebra, the single most failed course in community colleges across the country, should be eliminated from their requirements.

Lets just replace math altogether with intersectionality courses.

Yes, might as well trash it just as reading and writing were trashed. In fact hell, why not just do away with the whole education system, since true education has been replaced with indoctrination and propaganda.

Education with be replaced with victim hood studies and language arts will be replaced with grunts and screams…. and I suspect debate has already been replaced with claiming racism and throw your own feces.

If that is the case, the future is already here.

But more importantly, at least to the college administrators, the doors are flung open even wider to catch a greater proportion of the government guaranteed loan financed students who are hoping that their loans will be excused by a future Socialist government after their social work degree grants them six figure salary jobs.

        Indeed.

    Do away with compulsory education

Academia, from K-12 to university, is the greatest threat to Western Civilization right now. It indoctrinates, nay, champions tolerance, acceptance and even celebration of every other danger and liability to modern civilization.

The new classes of reduced-requirement students will be called the Exempted Learning Opportunity Individual, or ‘ELOI’. Higher performing students who opt to continue to study algebra before entry will be termed “Math Oriented Refined Learning Opportunity Coached Knowledge Students”, of ‘MORLOCKS’. The new education motto for the college will be, “Your Time Machine For A Career Future”. Prior syllabus work has already been published by acclaimed educator Herbert George Wells.

    According to the teachers unions
    x + y = patriarchy!

That looks like algebra! I’m confused and offended.

Last year I met a retire school teacher that taught math. He told me that the Math class was renamed Calculus . So now a basic dolt passing math for a good attendance and a 52% for simple question will fool their employers that they passed the Calculus course .

Wynne’s Liberals get to boast about the high passing rate for calculus which get used by Teacher for a raise right before the election .

  • JoKeR

They just need to teach mathematics in ways will make it relevant to the students.

Back in the day, English 200 was a required course for those wishing to get teaching certificates via the University of British Columbia. It was one of those “comprehensive” courses, doing a quick run-over from pre-Chaucer times to about 1900. Any BC student who had done English 91 in Grade 12 would have recognized it as an enhanced version of the same. Sadly, it was the course most Education students could not figure out and summer school was filled with would-be teachers desperately trying to pass a really basic course in English literature.

At about the same time, had a cousin who was majoring in Education. Said cousin and friend ended up doing a practicum in my very small home town, staying with my parents. For these two Vancouver kids, life in a small town was a real shock, beginning with realizing that the principal and teachers all knew the family, and going on to being walked to school with their pupils. The pair of them had a great time once they got over the culture shock. Returned to UBC and met up with a prof whose line was to the effect of .”…and what can we do to make this easier for you?” The pair were unanimous: the present program was too high on theory and not adequate on practical; rather than being made more lenient, it should be made more rigorous and with special emphasis on how to teach various subjects. Rather think that particular prof ignored their very reasonable comments.

Sad commentary: have had – and still have – a lot of really good teachers in our family. Have also watched the good ones struggle to maintain standards and impart real knowledge to their students, as opposed to the soft-core porn of victimhood of low self=esteem and ever-increasing entitlement.

  • Yes, academics ARE civil rights issues and should be done away with. The Khmer Rouge did away with education and look how they turned out.

    Oh, wait …

They also did away with glasses and those wearing them, so perhaps that will be next.

Same goes for Mao’s “Cultural Revolution”. Ten million dead later we have the society that Junior loves so well.

Why have any education or teaching at all when you are running an indoctrination camp?

Spin the old story about it being an islamic invention, and they’ll be forced to keep it.
