Is It O.K. to Fire a Muslim Driver for Refusing to Carry Wine?

I hired a limo service to drive me to a dinner party at a friend’s house. On the way, I remembered that I was supposed to bring the wine. I spotted a shop and asked the driver to pull over. When we arrived at my friend’s house, I asked the driver if he would help me carry the wine, because I had another bag to carry. He refused, on the grounds that he was a Muslim and was not allowed to touch alcohol.

  • JoKeR

He didn’t have to touch the alcohol, just the bag or box it was in, so fire the lazy liar, but beware they blow up so easily over anything they disagree with.

    • Ed

He can touch a gun, he can grope a woman, he can rape a child, he can do anything, but NO ALCOHOL!!!

    • Alain

Actually he is only forbidden from drinking alcohol; there is nothing about “touching” alcohol.

      • The Deplorable Rosenmops

Refusing to touch it is a Muslim power play.

        • Alain

Exactly the same as blocking streets and other public places with “praying” or wearing the burka and hijab.

  • bob e

he should have stuck the end of the wine bottle up the muzzies ass ..

    • John Boy

Why would he have done something the driver would have enjoyed?

  • WalterBannon

You should have told him you are Scottish and you are not allowed to tip

They aren’t allowed to drink it. They often do however. He was being an infidelophobe

  • Starlord

Most Muslims I know drink booze and eat bacon. That is why they fled the shitholes they use to live in. I think they say they are muslim since it’s so cultural embedded in them.

    • Alain

Yes, they are cultural or nominal Muslims, much like the majority of Christians and Jews living in Europe and N. America these days. I am referring to those who celebrate the holidays since it is the culture they were raised in. I am not knocking them, just saying that is my observation.

  • Jay Currie

Gee, the idiot customer could have saved himself a lot of trouble and the driver his job by saying, “OK, you take this package I was going to carry and I’ll carry the wine.” Only the NYT could manage to mangle this simple, obvious, question so badly.

    • bargogx1

The whole scenario sounds so absurd to me that I can hardly even believe that it actually happened.

      • Jay Currie

It does sound a bit virtue signally to me…But would a prog lie?

        Surely not.

  • Justin St.Denis

Simple solution – never employ a muslim cab driver. Indeed, never employ a muslim for anything if you know the value of a dollar. Muslims are a bad investment in any circumstances.

  • Frances

Quick answer: YES. He’s giving a public service; he doesn’t get to be picky about what he touches or carries.

  • pike bishop

I wonder how he gets the windshield washer fluid into the reservoir?

    • Alain

      Good one.

I’m not a fan of religious accommodation for the most part as it usually means real problems for the non-religious party, but this seems to be a case where it could easily be done. As Jay Currie wrote above, the customer could have just switched packages with the driver and been the one to carry the wine.

    • bargogx1

Hard to believe that between the two of them they couldn’t figure that out, isn’t it?
