Federal government reaches settlement with 3 Canadian men tortured in Syria and Egypt

Ralph Goodale and Chrystia Freeland apologize for Canada’s role in their detention and mistreatment.

  • ontario john

And the Canadian gravy train continues for islam. Money and apologies for everyone. I wonder if I will get an increase in my military pension.

  • tom_billesley

    C$10.5 million each?

    • Observer

I don’t know if Justin follows the Palestinian Authority/PLO/Fatah rules of rewarding Jihadis for each Kaffir they attack with a bonus for each one killed.

  • Linda1000

So, in other words, if you are a muslim with a Cdn. passport and a passport holder of another muslim or ME country (dual citizen?) you can travel at great risk to a home country of origin or any questionable destination in the ME, etc. and if you end up arrested and supposedly tortured, then the Cdn. gov’t is responsible for your safety or security.
Not so for non-muslim white Cdn. males. Just ask William Sampson (now deceasecd) who was arrested in Saudi Arabia who actually was raped, tortured and ended up with severe health issues after years of imprisonment. The useless Cdn. gov’t. did fuck all for him to secure his release and definitely did not compensate him with $$millions in any way.

    • New Centurion

      That’s about it.

    • Alain

Spot on. I well remember the Sampson case and the Canadian government’s indifference even though Sampson was guilty of nothing and actually tortured with the evidence contrary to Arar and others. He had to go to the British authorities for help, since Canada would do nothing.

      • Justin St.Denis

Sampson’s was a “textbook case” of how the Canadian government handles such cases. Canada’s government has never really given a fuck about Canadians, and definitely has NOT given a fuck about them in my lifetime. But sheeple graze, they don’t study history and analyze……

    • Observer

It’s like the millions we spent during the Lebanon civil war to bring back Lebanese-Canadian dual citizens most of whom hadn’t been back to Canada in 10 years.

Yet around the same time when Canadian travelers were stranded in the Yucatan Peninsula, I think with Hurricane Rita, Canadian Foreign Affairs wouldn’t lift a finger to help Canadians.

    • John

Not only did they not compensate him, they let him rot in a Saudi jail for about 3 years before doing anything to get him released. His death was related to the injuries he’d suffered during his incarceration.

    • Justin St.Denis

The Canadian government has a long history of abandoning Canadian citizens abroad. Some deserved what they got, but most did not. It really is a pity that more Canadians do not know more about the good and bad sides of Canadian history. Sad.

    • Watchman

Canadian is obviously guilty for not declaring war and invading and subjugating Egypt and Syria to release Canadian-by-name-only people from their prisons.

Watch out Australia, Jordan Gardner might yet be liberated from your oppressive regime by Canadian military action if you don’t immediately release Jordan, apologise, and compensate him for your illegal impediment of a Canadian Citizen. http://themusic.com.au/news/all/2017/02/03/how-a-burgeoning-canadian-muso-ended-up-jailed-in-aus-for-smuggling-drugs/

Looks like Momin Khawaja (ref: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Momin_Khawaja ) might also be eligible for an apology and compensation for his unethical (by Canadian standards) detainment by Britain. Looks like Canada separating from fiendish Britain could not have happened fast enough.

  • The Butterfly
  • Maggat

Great, so what will this cost the taxpayer? $31,500,000?

    • Liberal Progressive

Don’t worry. There’s lots more where that came from!

      • Maggat

        Not really.

        • Observer

What do you think the Carbon tax is for, besides filling Liberal pockets?

  • New Centurion

Never mind the Muslims they’re following the green. It’s the RCMP and or CSIS; (basically an agency set up for retired Mounties) who are making it oh so easy for perpetually aggrieved Muslims to keep making withdraws from the taxpayer ATM. Is anyone watching the RCMP/CSIS? It seems like every superspy mission where these 007 wannabees have been involved, has resulted in a truckload lawsuits because some one’s rights were violated. Is anyone losing their decoder ring or getting fired for this stuff?

    • Justin St.Denis

Keystone Kops Korporate HQ is located in Gerald Butts’ mind these days. Things are going to get even weirder and more expensive.

    • Alain

None of that changes the fact that the problem is accepting that “their rights” were violated.

      • New Centurion

Agreed, but the we’re talking about the Canadian Courts here and “The (heavenly choir chimes in) Charter”; where I’m positive that it’s enshrined in invisible ink somewhere on that rag, that every non-white person or sexual pervert WILL have their rights violated by “The Man” at some point in their lives and they WILL be entitled to a groveling government apology and a shite load of money. My point is, why are we making it any easier for them? The fact is CSIS/ RCMP should know this how the courts will react to this stuff. And seriously, getting the Syrian and Egyptian “police” to ask your suspects “a few questions” knowing they skip right over the ole “good cop, bad cop” routine and go straight to sadist, is pretty stupid. Not sticking up for these guys, who knows what they were accused of but as long as Mr. “Sunny Ways” is running the show we better get used to forking over the green.

        • Alain

Yes, that is also true, but just as true is that the federal government regardless of which party is in power has always had the ability to invoke the notwithstanding clause, yet it refuses to do so pretending it must abide by the judicial activist judges.

  • ontario john

Meanwhile the Toronto Sun has a story on how Canadian vets are being ignored by feminist Trudeau. I lost a finger on a so called peace keeping mission years ago. Maybe I should sue the government. I guess I would have to convert to Islam first.

    • tom_billesley
      • andycanuck

Is it called the “goat finger”?

        • A Hamilton Guy

That’s the one they like to stick up your asshole.

        • Will Quest

          aka as the hole-finger …….

    • Liberal Progressive

That is Islamophobic to claim you have to convert to Islam to get extra benefits.

You just need to join the Liberal Party and be a successful fundraiser for the party like Ahmed Khadr had been.

  • David Murrell

Notice that the news was announced on a Friday, to minimize the news fallout to the public. Much like the money-giveaway to our war criminal Omar Khadr.

  • Canadian Born

You have got to be kidding! This lies on the head of that moron Trudeau, and every frigging Canadian that voted this moron into our government. I have asked this question before, where the hell is that man that has the balls to run for PM and stop this nonsense and take Canada back?

  • john700

Question: how much did we pay for this?

  • andycanuck

I wonder if I could get a cop from Buffalo, NY to beat me up on the promise that I’ll split the $6-million* with him evenly?

*Don’t want to be greedy; I’m not a Moslem after all.

    • John Boy

And if you were, you would still say that, but intend on keeping all the money.

      • andycanuck

        Jizzya and taqqiya, baby!

  • Morticiaa

How dare you apologize for me you impotent asshole
These islMics got what they deserved

  • Tooth&Claw

The government’s that owe them money are the ones that detained and mistreated them. Not Canada.

    • Alain

Provided there were no grounds to detain them and that they were actually mistreated.

  • mauser 98
  • mauser 98
  • Frances

Correct me if I’m wrong, but didn’t this all happen under a Liberal government?

  • WalterBannon

    not my government

    • Clausewitz

I love this country. I hate this government.

  • SMC_BC

Trudeau gives me a headache. Maybe I should be compensated.
