Former PM Stephen Harper reaches out to Khadr victim

First it was a Toronto Sun reader buying a full-page advertisement to apologize to Omar Khadr’s victims for the eight-figure settlement he received from the Canadian government.

Now former prime minister Stephen Harper has reached out to the families to express his outrage.

Upset about the Liberal government’s $10.5-million settlement with Khadr, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s predecessor picked up the phone Wednesday and called American soldier Layne Morris at his home in Utah.

A real mensch!! Thank you Mr. Harper!

Thank You Mr Harper for showing some courage ..

  • The Butterfly

I think Adolf Hitler did this once too. Coincidence?

    • bverwey

WTF? Please elaborate on your point.

      • BillyHW

Are you sure the internet is the safest place for you to be, bverwey?

        • bverwey

I’m sure I am OK. Seems with a Turdeau moniker you are the one who should worried.

As for my initial reply seems reasonable to question the “Adolf Hitler” reference. Something not sit well with you taht you would like to elaborate on?

          • BillyHW

You don’t think my avatar is beautiful?

          • Clink9

            It’s frickin’ fabulous!

      • Drunk_by_Noon

        Because Harper is LITERALLY Hitler.
How do you not know that?
He tried to figuratively send the liberal party away in cattle cars.

        • Clink9

Aaaaand, was going to send soldiers, in the streets, in OUR cities!

    • Clink9

Never seen the two of them in the same room either.

      • BillyHW

And isn’t if funny how Donald Trump started running for office right after Stephen Harper finished his term as PM? The dots are all connecting together.

    • Drunk_by_Noon

If Harper were any more like Hitler, he’d look like Charlie Chaplin.

I’m starting to think that Mr. Harper threw the last election on purpose.
Just wait until interest rates rise two percent or more.

    • But why did he repatriate Khadr?

      • dance…dancetotheradio
        • It would have saved a lot of trouble.

Did you ever read the Foundation Trilogy by Isaac Aasimov?
I had to look it up because I have forgotten details in the thirty years since I read it.
Some guy saw a long lingering end to the empire and figured out a way to hasten it so it could be re-established in the shortest period of time.

          • I don’t think I’ve heard of that one, actually.

I will have to add it to my reading list.

      • dance…dancetotheradio

        And thanks!
I haven’t thought about this song in over twenty years.
        Fahking good chune.

      • Drunk_by_Noon

Because that’s EXACTLY what Hitler would have done and Harper is literally Hitler.

        • k1962

That’s what all of the cool kids kept telling us :/

        • Like, literally.

          Super-cereal about this.

  • Oh, look – a classy human being.

    • Frances

I’d never describe him as “classy”, any more than I would describe the Queen as classy, as I don’t like that term. To me, Mr Harper is an adult with standards and morals; and lives what he believes.

      • Perhaps your phraseology is better: a well-raised adult does what a slimy little worm refuses to do – give comfort to a widow.

        • Frances

Thank you. I think of our former PM as a man of principle.

  • k1962

Stephen’s the man. He’s a quiet person who has stayed out of the limelight and his gesture makes me proud to be Canadian. Something I haven’t felt since the last election.

    • bverwey

      Thank you I concur.

  • Exile1981

He better watch out or turdeau’s handlers will arrange an accident for him… maybe that was was what the 124 million payment to Hillary was for?

  • Morticiaa

    Not surprising Stephen
Your personal ethics and integrity motivated this call
As you have no political motives
And really too bad we don’t have more like you
Hopefully Andrew will carry the torch
    Thank you
