LCBO Enforces Canada Food Inspection Agency Ban On Israeli Wine

The horror! The grapes were grown in the “Occupied Territory” of the West Bank!  No imports from Psagot or Shiloh Winery’s until BDS approved Swastikas are added to the label.

This all sounds very “EU”, I wonder if that trade deal PM Useful Idiot signed with the commies in Brussels has anything to do with it? Compliance? Maybe. But given the CFIA is federal I suspect it’s just another example of Justin Trudeau’s “shared values with Islam”.

I hope Israel responds by blocking all Canadian funds going to certain left-wing NGOs that support this action.

I am sure Adolph would have been as proud as much of the Liberal Cabinet is over this.

    • Observer

To be specific that is Kathleen Wynne’s Cabinet in Ontario as this is a provincial issue.

      • The CFIA is Federal. I am not sure the LCBO can ignore their edict.

        • Observer

Thanks. I thought it was an LCBO directive.

Well I am sure that both Trudeau’s and Wynn’s cabinets both support this.

Cat, this coming Monday when I am back in the office I will send out a formal access-to-information request, to the CFIA, on this. I am pretty sure I can ferret out some unpublished CFIA documents on this.

Every day or two comes a new sign of the ugly direction of the governments in this country.

    • The Liberal party is a disaster for Canada.

      • Oracle9

We have first the federal vanguards followed by the trifecta of radical leftist provincial governments of BC, Alberta and Ontario, plus certain municipal ones (Vancouver, New Westminster for example).

All supported loyally by the Canadian electorate. If Canadians don’t like them, well, the brain-dead ones should have damn well stayed away from the polling booths and left the elections to sentient, responsible Canadians.

        • We have an entrenched political class that supports nonsense such as this, our bureaucracy, federal and provincial, Academia, the media etc

          • Oracle9

I am listening to Ayn Rand’s The Return of the Primitive from 1971 and it’s so prophetic in its insights of the slippery slide by naive pressure groups as they gain concessions from a feckless establishment afraid to stand its ground, towards a chaotic society which abandons reason.

And its not these irrational pressure groups which seize power – they merely create the vacuum for professional totalitarians to take charge.

Disturbing, but highly recommended warning. We are halfway there already when I hear the slogans being adopted by our elites.

          • Seems prescient.

        • Maggat

The electorate in these cases consists primarily of gov’t union workers, and I’m using the term worker rather loosely.

          • Oracle9

Well, you have an excellent point. Is it not about 60% of Canadian workers now are government bureaucrats now?

Welfare state creates its own voter base even more effectively than tribal politics for buying votes. I think of the CBC bribe of our tax money to put Junior in power.

      • Maggat

        Always was!

This once lovely and secure country has one chance and only one chance for survival – destroy the Liberal Majority government in the next Federal election. Better still topple the Liberals and elect a conservative government. If we don’t get rid of Turdeau and the Liberals we shall go the same route as Western Europe – downhill to self destruction.

  • ontario john

I bet the United Church is excited at this news.

  • Ann

But look at this, from federal gov, Canadian Food Inspection Agency with regard to wine labelling:

“Made in Canada from (naming the country or countries) grapes (or juices)” or
“Blended in Canada from (naming the country or countries) wines”.
As an interim measure, the statement “Cellared in Canada by (naming the company), (address) from imported and/or domestic wines” may also be used as a country of origin statement for wines blended in Canada.”
    http://www.inspection.gc.ca/food/labelling/food-labelling-for-industry/alcohol/eng/1392909001375/1392909133296?chap=16

The way I read it, grapes from West Bank could be used meeting the above criteria + it would be considered made in Canada.

    Looks like BDS to me.

  • They do this sort of thing between provinces, too.

It’s not always the Jew-hatred. Sometimes, it’s the money.

But, in this case, the Jew-hatred.

  • ontario john

Well, I guess if Wynne has no problem dressing up like a muslim, then she wouldn’t have a problem acting like one.

  • Brenda

To compensate, we can all start buying more wine from Hungary, Poland, and any other country that bans muslim immigrants. Hungary makes wine, Poland seems to make lots of vodka and liqueurs, and the Czech Republic makes wines, liqueurs and beer.

    • Good idea.

    • Alain

I have been doing that for a good while ensuring to avoid any product from Western Europe along with certain others unless it is a good Canadian product.

    • Bernie

      I will drink to that!

  • JTrumpeldor

My rule is to add three bottles of Israeli wine to every case that I order. My small way of supporting Israel. If more people employ my rule, it would be a great statement against BDS. BTW, the wines are great!

  • Topposter

I assume we can still import it for personal use. Good thing I enjoy going to Niagara Falls, always makes for a nice day trip. Gonna have to come up with some suggestions for the new “Country of Origin” labels….maybe “Product of The Promised Land”, or keep it simple “Product of Judea and Samaria”.

    • The Judean People’s Liberation Front will have something to say about that!

  • Christian Christian
    • Thanks for letting us know who the usual suspects are;)

Is this related to UN A HRC 34L.41:

“The resolutions call on Israel to end settlement activity and demand that Israel fully withdraw to the pre-1967 borders.

Resolution A_HRC_34_L.41, which mandates a boycott of Israeli settlements, calls on UN member states to “distinguish, in their relevant dealings, between the territory of the State of Israel and the territories occupied since 1967.”

This includes the West Bank, east Jerusalem and the Golan Heights.

The international community should be told “not to provide Israel with any assistance to be used specifically in connection with settlements in these territories, inter alia by withholding trade with settlements, consistent with their obligations under international law,” the resolution states.”http://www.jpost.com/Israel-News/Politics-And-Diplomacy/UNHRC-to-call-for-boycott-of-Israeli-settlements-484612

I stand to be corrected but I seem to recall that Trudeau gov wouldn’t say if they supported this.
