Aid agencies encourage migrants in the Med, says Italian senator: Official accuses relief organisations of providing a ‘public transport’ service which ‘enriches’ people traffickers

An Italian senator has accused relief organisations rescuing migrants from the Mediterranean of operating a ‘public transport’ service that is ‘enriching’ people traffickers.

Lucio Malan said aid agencies and charities running rescue ships should stop bringing them to his country and take them to the nearest coast instead.

Most of these “aid” nonprofit groups get government financing based upon the number of people they “help” so out of self-interest they will do anything they can to increase those numbers.

They may claim it is out of moral justification but ultimately they do it for personal gain.

Cut off the tax payer funding of these groups and they will decrease the amount of help they provide to these illegal migrants in trying to evade the law.

They have to keep an eye on their profit margins after all.

If human trafficking is illegal, why aren’t these organizations hauled into court?

Yeah, there is no doubt that this is happening, but the solution is one that the EU refuses to use: eliminate the market by closing the borders.

There’s probably far more money in smuggling people than in smuggling drugs. Imagine where this is going to go in just another two or three years.
