The True Meaning of Socialized Medicine

A perfect crystallization of the full heart and soul of socialized or “single payer” health care is on display in the story of Charlie Gard, a ten-month-old infant with a life-threatening genetic condition, and his parents, Chris and Connie, whose desperate efforts to save their child have been diverted, and finally thwarted, first by the British government and now by an entity with the perfectly Orwellian name “European Court of Human Rights.”

The Vatican’s Statement On UK Baby Condemned To Die Is Frightening

If this is where the Vatican now makes its stand, then the most vulnerable members of society—which is to say all of us, at some point—are in trouble.

Am I reading this correctly? They didn’t want the government to pay for the medical care in the US but wanted to take him there and were denied the right to take him away?

    • They did not want a terminally ill brain dead vegetable to be put through any more pain and suffering.

In the vast majority of cases, if you want private health care in a different country you are allowed to go.

Could the parents have found unscrupulous doctors who were more than happy to drain every last penny out of them, and still get the same result? Yes.

But at least the parents did not spend money up till now and still have their finances intact.

  • The true meaning of socialized medicine = you do not get charged $15,000 for a trip to the emergency room.

    • How do you think that is paid for?

      • The same way the socialized medicine for vets gets paid for.

        • I hate to break it to you but there is no magical money growing orchard. Taxes pay for everything you like. This socialised system also means that little Charlie is at the mercy of an unfeeling system.

    • The Deplorable Rosenmops

“You are still free to hire private doctors for specialized treatment.”

There aren’t any private doctors in Canada as far as I know.

      • Shebel

Then you don’t know too much.
        Immigrants–have their ways.

  • Drunk_by_Noon

That kid’s terminally ill and brain damaged.
He cant be fixed, and he will never be right, maybe he can be kept alive a little longer.
I’m sorry, but I’m sort of siding with the state on this one.
The real evil here is socialized medicine and government overreach that removes individual choice.
The state couldn’t care less that the kid lives or dies with dignity.
That part of their argument is an utter lie, but if they were to spend the money, that removes a considerable amount of money from the system to care for others.
    It’s a hard call.

    • The Deplorable Rosenmops

The parents have enough money to pay for the treatment in America from a goFundMe drive. The government has basically kidnapped the baby and will let the baby die. Even if nothing can be cone for the baby I don’t think the government has a right to do that.

      • Norman_In_New_York

Furthermore, there are plenty of American medical research and teaching institutions that would happily see the baby’s case as an opportunity to discover and develop lifesaving treatments and therapies that would benefit future patients as well.

        • Drunk_by_Noon

They are using the baby as a lab rat, but what the heck.
If the parents are using their own money (more or less) then it’s their call.
I still think that prolonging that kid’s life is not the right thing to do, but if the parents are footing the bill, it sets a bad precedent for the government to stick their heads into the issue.

          • Shebel

            I agree.
I have seen enough Canadian cancer patients spend their last legacy to go to Texas—-for AGGRESSIVE TREATMENT.
Not one has come back alive.
            This is bullshit.

          • Drunk_by_Noon

I wonder why Texas, unless they are using that as a springboard to get some kind of sham treatment in Mexico.

    • Will Quest

The prime reason for this article was to condemn the Catholic Church , a vile vindictive , Christian hating Prog has a good rancid FART !

      • Shebel

        I dunno.
Maybe that was the intent but this transcends Religion.
Now you want to try Politics ?
I have absolutely no doubt about what I would do.

    • The question is who decides for this boy. If the Crown can do this once, they’ll do it every time.

  • seaoh

With the possible exception of calling
abortion “women’s health care” “Dying with dignity” has to be one of the most offensive Orwellian terms ever.
We used to be a society that lived by the motto “when the going gets tough the tough get going”. Todays generation lives by the motto. When the going gets tough off yourself.

Dying with “dignity” means dying with you boots on guns blazing fighting to your very last breath not being put to sleep like a dog in an over crowded kennel.

When liberal say “dying with dignity ” that mean kill all the elderly, the disabled the mental cha)anged and mentally ill. Kill anyone who will cost them, or their agenda more then then profit them.

If the tide is not turned soon I fear that our grandchildren will be saying “never again!” Once again

    • Shebel

The tide has already turned .
I can remember when funerals were held in the home.
I remember when the Grandparents never even had to think about an olde folks home..
It was a miserable life for the wife that married into the Family.
Your life was to bear children ,like a good wife—and put up with these olde demanding pricks , that looked upon this marriage as having gained a SLAVE.
This was Life on the Farm.

    • Shebel

You tell me how I can die with dignity by your standards ?
I have no intention of withering away with all those sad faces staring at me.
Now what should I do ?
That would make a fucking Liberal happy.

      • seaoh

So the lesson you wish to leave your children and grand children is “screw you I’m in pain I’m out of here ? ” pretty selfish and cowardly if you ask me? Would you at least wait a week or two to allow the family to gather and say good by? Maybe they could draw straws to see who has the pleasure of pulling the plug? Suffering is an essential part of life with out pain there is no gain. Often those who suffer for a little while before death gain important spiritual insight, and time to reconcile issues they may have had with family. The time could also be used by family members to prepare for the death of a loved one both emotionally, financially.

None of that means of course that one should not use what ever is available to make your last days as comfortable as possible you/they should.

But “do not go gentle into that good night
Rage rage against the dying of the light”

        • Shebel

Maybe-I will change my mind and lay there like a skeleton–gasping for breath and totally out of my head on drugs.
I hope they bring my Grandkids—-so that will a fond remembrance of me.
          This is stupid.
          I don’t know what I will do. .

          • seaoh

“I don”t know what I would do” In this you are correct I hope and wish that if God forbid. I am in that position I will rage against the dying of the light but until then no one really knows how they will react .

Having said that you never addresseded my more macro point. That is when a society accepts an evil like “dying with dignity” it becomes an option, then a “right” then it becomes mandatory. Before long some government bureaucrat or cooperate head is deciding for you if your life is worth living.

      • Why are you angry all the time?

    • Blacksmith

“Dying with “dignity”‘, means dying with your boots, on guns blazing,
fighting to your very last breath; not being put to sleep like a dog in
      an over crowded kennel.”
Exactly, the baby may be beyond help, but the parents should have the right to fight to his very last breath if they want to.

  • Shebel

It used to be that when WE had lots of kids—
One or two dying was pretty much expected.

  • Shebel

So—-I intend to convert to ISAM—-
So that I can Die with DIGNITY.
I will use my semi-auto matic to KILL all the females and Babies that I can see–
    Glory to ALLAH!!
Islam is really an amazing Religion.

  • Ho Hum

This is obviously a sad and tragic situation but I don’t know if “socialized” “single payer” medicine is to blame. I was watching Tucker Carlson last night (as I always do) and he had an American doctor on who had patients that required life saving surgery. According to the Doctor the patients conditions were “curative” but without the treatment they were destined to die. The Doctor said he was contacted by Insurance companies who inquired if the Doctor had considered euthanasia for his patients (I believe his patients were in California where euthanasia is legal) so we should not kid ourselves thinking that private for-profit healthcare is any more humane.

    • Shebel

Don’t get me wrong . Please.
There are lots of people that might be saved.
Who was that Town Mayor from Smith Falls or where ever– that paid to go to Germany– that had like 4 months to live in Canada–
      Now he is cured.

Fact is – We can’t afford good Medical treatment anymore—-
Long as we keep bringing in the sick and the dying from every other fucking Country.
      I DESPISE our Immigration policy.

      • Ho Hum

Oh I agree. I’m not saying our socialized medicine is any better than private for profit – both systems have similar problems and of course in Canada a huge problem are the 100,000’s (millions?) of sick and aging parents and grandparents of landed immigrants that we let into this country for the sake of “family reunification”. Most of these diseased third world maggots will never pay one dime of income tax and yet they sponge off our medical system stretching resources to the limit. Countless Canadians are dying as a result.

        • Shebel

I really do not understand how we can keep bringing in the Elderly , the dying and the Useless from other Countries.
Justin—is either totally stupid, totally uncaring or just totally in some other World—
No LEADER would do what this this piece of shit is doing. .
          But-then again—
Justin- is not here for Canada.
          Canada–is here for Justin.

          • Ho Hum

Unfortunately it is not just a Liberal problem. When Harper was in power he brought in record numbers of “family class” (i.e. parasite) immigrants. His “confirmed bachelor” (gay?) immigration minister – Jason Kenney – spent all his free time travelling across Canada visiting muslim mosques and sikh temples brown-nosing the brown skinned immigrants. The conservatives are vote-whores just like the Liberals. The only difference is they did it on the “down low” (something Kenney is good at) . Harper brought in half a Million muslims when he was in office – for this I consider Harper a TRAITOR every bit as bad as Trudeau. There is no hope for Canada.

          • Shebel

Ok. I am not going to argue with you.
What is is this fucking FETISH with Islam ?
Is it because they are Violent and have no problem killing us.
            or
Is it because they have the money and the Power to make or destroy a Politician ?
            I think this is it.
They are aggressive and have everybody scared .
They will sue you -at the drop of a hat.
They will be Offended -at the drop of a hat.
They are Masters at Manipulating our
            Politically Correct Society.

          • Shebel

If you think about this much–then you must fore see some-
            Hope for Canada.

  • Shebel

Have any of you opinionated people ever contemplated raising a totally Dependent child when that child is 35 years old ?
At 35 years old– you are still changing diapers, you still spoon feed , you need a baby sitter if you ever want to leave ,you have to lift her in and out of the bathtub–
And how old are you- when she is 35?
    Nice PIC—-
When all 3 of you are still young.

  • irishrus

Vatican doesn’t get what belongs to Caesar and what belongs to God.
Life death and souls belong to God

    • Shebel

These Laws were made before we had all these scientific knowledge..
I don’t think God expected us to be stupid.

  • Frances

How times have changed!! Not so long ago, children were routinely removed from their parents’ care because said parents did not want the recommended medical treatment for their children. Jehovah’s Witness parents were particularly at risk because they refused blood transfusions. Which, in the early ’80s, proved to be a wise choice.

Remember an interview on Peter Gzowski with parents whose son had been born with serious health problems. When, after several months, the parents asked that treatment be stopped, the authorities stepped in and removed the wee boy from his parents’ care. The child died some months later, still in hospital, and without his parents being with him. The parents openly accused the authorities of being extremely and overly optimistic of the possibility of success of medical treatment, and were still obviously heartbroken at not being able to care for and be with their dying son.
