Berlin: Bomb at McDonald’s unlikely to have been been hidden in pants says Police spokesman

Bomb unlikely to have been been hidden in pants says Police spokesman

A MCDONALD’S in Berlin has been evacuated in a bomb alert after a gas bottle with an ignition device was left outside.

The red cylinder was about 5ft 6in tall with a silver cap and was left near the restaurant’s entrance.

Officers said the incident was being taken seriously as it was potentially an explosive device.

They ordered customers to leave the restaurant on Wrangelstrasse in the Kreuzberg area of German capital Berlin.

Someone lugs a 6 foot tall gas canister to a Berlin McDonalds and there is no report of who did it! Talk about see something; say nothing.

They brought it in a burka.

Hide this in pants? The deliverer could claim that he overdosed on Viagra.

  • Call me a naive, but it looks like an everyday oxy/acetylene tank for welding. You used to see them everywhere before electrical arc welding became more popular. And yes they have “ignition devices” — a flint lighter similar to the one you use to light your gas barbecue.

The dam things are cumbersome to move around even when they’re empty, so there’s a possibility that somebody put it there for the purpose of actually welding something (although there should be two tanks –one for oxygen and the other for acetylene). This could turn out to be very embarrassing. Jus’ sayin’.

The cylinder is the right colour for acetylene.
IRA used empty cylinders to make bomb casings, but they were typically empty propane gas cylinders.

      • Yeah, the gas welding tanks are pretty thick, vs propane cylinders.
