Someone’s career is over. The navy doesn’t like captains who dent their ships.

    • Wonder how it all came about.

Being hit on the starboard side is not a good thing, you are supposed to surrender the right of way to vessels approaching you on that side. canminuteman is right somebody’s career is over.

I would guess that merchant ships travel relatively slowly and in a straight line. A warship would have a full bridge compliment and millions of dollars worth of radar, navigation equipment and night vision aids. That being said, I looked at pictures of the damage and the USS Fitzgerald was the hittee, not the hitter.

According to marinetraffic.com the other ship ACX Crystal was steaming at 19.3kts at or above max speed at 20:07 UTC then rapidly dropped to zero. It is currently at 0.3kts not under command which means literally what it says. I wonder if this was a ramming

“Crystal veered OFF course TWICE The last time right before hitting USN ship”

Makes you wonder who was at the helm. Any guesses.
