First death sentence handed to Lahore man for blasphemy on social media

An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) on Saturday sentenced a man to death for sharing blasphemous content about Islam on social media, a government prosecutor said.

ATC Judge Shabir Ahmed announced the sentence for the 30-year-old accused in Bahawalpur.

The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) had arrested the accused, who belongs to the Shia community, last year from Bahawalpur and a case was registered against him at CTD Multan police station.

The accused, who hails from Lahore, had allegedly posted derogatory content about prominent Sunni religious figures and wives of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) on Facebook.

You know, correct me if I’m wrong, but I think it’s a really bad idea to take in immigrants who are from Pakistan and other countries with 7th century Islamic values and laws. Maybe it’s just me, but I’m not so sure it will benefit our country in any way. In fact I’m thinking it might cause a lot of major problems in the very near future.

I wish we had a government that actually put the best interests of Canadians first instead of giving top priority to importing future Liberal voters and future problems for Canadian citizens and our institutions.

Pakistan is one of our allies in the fight against “religious extremism”. Let that sink in for a while and remember that they have atomic bombs.

The UN Human Rights Committee in July 2011 adopted General Comment 34 on the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR) 1976. Pakistan had entered the ICCPR into force in September 2010. It binds signatory countries.

General Comment 34 made it clear that “Prohibitions of displays of lack of respect for a religion or other belief system, including blasphemy laws, are incompatible with the Covenant”. It also makes it clear that countries with blasphemy laws in any form that have signed the ICCPR are in breach of their obligations under the ICCPR.

Then again, who takes notice of UN pronouncements unless they’re anti-Israel.

i get the impression that the Toronto police have been told to NOT arrest Muslims that commit child-abuse in public.
No matter how many times I see muslim women with a child that they force to hold vile and hateful Posters that have had blood covered corpses and call for killing people….the Police actually provide Security to protect them from those that oppose child-abuse and the over jew-hatred by these 10th century knuckle dragging followers of muhammad.
It’s normal now for children to be used as Shields at the front line when muslims hold a jew-hating pro-hamas rally or march to end the mythical islamophobia.

    btw
Justin’s meeting with Obama went well and he shared his deep thoughts to assure Obama that it’s also time that Canada wants to see a female Prime Minister.
Kim Campbell was very impressed and agrees with Lil’ Justy .
