Asylum agreement with U.S. to blame for woman’s death near border, lawyer says

An agreement between Canada and the United States is to blame for the recent death of Mavis Otuteye, a presumed asylum seeker found dead less than a kilometre from the Canadian border, a Winnipeg immigration lawyer says.

Ghana is one of the more stable and peaceful countries in West Africa. She has no business being a refugee from there OR from the United States. It’s always unfortunate when someone dies prematurely, but she brought this on herself and it is not Canada’s fault – it’s her own criminal behaviour that got her killed.

      nothing unfortunate about her death

  • Observer

It sounds like the lawyer is getting ready to start a lawsuit to extort money out of tax payers.

    • WalterBannon

      the lawyer should die too

All he needs to find is an aggrieved relative and he’s off to the races.

I would say her death is due hypothermia suffered during her ill advised and poorly prepared attempt to cross the US/Canada border illegally in order to circumvent the
Canada-U.S. Safe Third Countries Agreement. But then I’m a white supremacist nazi, no doubt.

But she was entitled to the higher welfare rates and free housing in Canada!

Yes, entitlement. A lof of that going around these days.

Blaming the countries is bullshit. She should have applied the legal way, and there would have been no problem. It is all about the money, and I can see the Moron that is running Canada into the ground, is going to pay out a lot of dollars to her family.

She died in the U.S.A. Our PM doofus better pay her family nothing.

    I blame our shitty weather.

    • WalterBannon

I blame Kathleen Wynne. Her carbon taxes have caused global cooling.

  • This has to be said: the US is not a Third World dictatorship. No one is escaping from it. They are looking for a more lucrative place to squat at their own peril.

    No sympathy.

  • RottyLover

No, the border jumping illegal criminal tnuc is responsible for her own death. And I’m thrilled.

  • WalterBannon

I wish that EVERY asylum seeker was found dead less than a kilometre from the Canadian border

  • k1962

Ummm, no. It was her fault for making the bad decision to enter Canada illegally and for being underdressed for the weather.

Trudeau didn’t airdrop a parka? It’s his fault.

  • Tooth&Claw

She chose poorly. The law and Canada are not responsible for her choices.
