Andrew Scheer elected new leader of federal Conservative party.

Scheer beats Bernier with 50.95% of the vote on final ballot after trailing in 1st 12 rounds.

For the first time since I came of age I am going to abstain from voting in the next election.
    I just don’t care anymore.

    • mauser 98

      only helping Justine
      …one less vote against him
      yes….Scheer cannot win Quebec

      • barryjr

Screw that noise. The frogs should be kicked out of Canada for being the traitors they are and now is the time. Thank the frogs for ages of Liberal governments and the theft of funds from the west.

        • mauser 98

…thats the system…i dont like it either

  • ontario john

Good News for Canada if his acceptance speech is any indicator. He almost sounded like Donald Trump, when talked about getting rid of the carbon tax and actually saying radical islam. And his mention that he would cut off funding to universities that didn’t support free speech was good as well.

  • PaulW

He’s supposedly (according to Faith Goldy) a social conservative; I’d be interested to know where he stands on issues such as abortion. Brad Trost, the “ultra” socon in the race finished 4th overall so I have a suspicion that a lot of those new conservative party memberships went to actual conservatives, and social conservatives in particular. Personally, I think that this is a positive, if it was the case.

  • Clausewitz

From the CBC and the MSM, “Scheer is Hitler” in 3… 2… 1… . After all he’s named after a Nazi Kreigsmarine ship.

    • JPfromtheeast

Oh I watched the short interview with the CBC clowns and they were all over him to try to goad him into something. Especially to try to get him to stab his competition in the face or some such foolishness.

GOD I hate the CBC with every fiber in my body!

      • The CBC is a field of manure.

It shouldn’t be defunded. It should be destroyed.

      • lolwut? (Deplorable Hoser)

Then stop paying for it 😉

      • DavidinNorthBurnaby

I hate Al Ceebeera like I hate rats and pigeons.

    • Brett_McS

Will we call him The Admiral?

    • BillyHW

OMG, he’s also going to be *literally* Donald Trump during the next election.

      • Clausewitz

Here’s hoping the MSM pushes that trope to the max, it can only help.

  • Jay Currie

Sorry to see Bernier miss “by that much”. Scheer seems sound on free speech, a bit of a socon and fairly dull. I suspect fairly dull may be welcome after a couple more years of the selfie king.

    • andycanuck

And the carbon dioxide tax really starts kicking in.

  • Cat-astrophe

Speaks French and is not from Quebec.
Best of both Worlds. He was choice 2 on my ballot.

    • ontario john

Actually, he speaks better French than little dickhead.

      • JPfromtheeast

Potato speaks school time french and can hardly get his words together in ANY language!

      • Alain

It really does not require much to be able to do that. I should say also that his manner of speaking English is unbearable also.

    • JPfromtheeast

He was my #2 as well, Maxime was my #1 only because of the more libertarian inclination. If Andrew pushes for more end of supply side management, then I will be a very happy boy.

I just hope that he realizes that the marijuana file is best to just go forward with. I in no way support the use but am tired of seeing my taxes going into prosecuting and jailing people for something no worse than alcohol.

      • Cat-astrophe

        I agree with your assessment.
There is a couple of things we may as well support, like marijuana and abortion.
I do not agree with them or condone them, they are with us and will not go away. It would take their power away from the Liberals and let us focus on what we see as real issues.

        • Alain

Perhaps you meant something different, but I disagree that we might as well support abortion. I agree that it would be impossible to criminalise it, but that it is covered under our socialised health care is NOT acceptable. At best it is elective surgery and no other elective surgery is covered. As for marijuana why not just decriminalise it while making the same restrictions as with alcohol.

          • john700

“no other elective surgery is covered” – No, Ontario covers dick-to-pussy and pussy-to-dick surgeries.

          • Minicapt

That’s not ‘elective’; that’s utterly necessary if the individual’s body is to match its reality.

    • Alain

He was also my second choice, so I don’t share the same views as others here about him.

  • H

Some good stuff in this interview with the Rebel’s Holly Nicholas:

    • disqusW6sf

….You know he may do okay in Quebec. Good points on illegal immigration.

      • JPfromtheeast

He did surprisingly well in votes out of the Quebec membership, so quite possibly.

He needs to work his french a little more. And that is from a bilingual that hardly has to speak or is concerned with french. But I guess, if a franco can sound like a franco when speaking english, what harm is there in an anglo sounding anglo when speaking english!

      • Alain

Harper proved that you don’t have to have Quebec in order to win, so frankly all this concern about how Quebec will view him or anyone else is pointless. Sorry but just fed up with the whole Quebec thing.

        • disqusW6sf

          Harper was an anomaly.

          • john700

a miracle in a country full of fools.

          • disqusW6sf

            Yes indeed.

  • Felix_Culpa

I think it was a good choice, and a strong finish for both Scheer & Bernier shows there is good bench strength in the party.

  • Some people are having a meltdown over this.

He promised to withhold grants to universities that quash free speech, so there’s that.

Ask one’s self this: we have a former snowboard instructor as PM now. How much worse can it get?

What if Scheer does pull off an “anybody but Trudeau” campaign?

Not with Trudeau’s cheating, of course …

    • Linda1000

Scheer won the race even with O’Leary throwing his support to Bernier. I think Scheer might have a good chance of beating Justine but that’s a different race.. Anyone but the Liberals in 2019 but not the NDP either. 🙂

      • Scheer is a bit of a dark horse.

I did not see that coming.

        Trost did quite well.

Where the hell did Kelly Leitch go?

        • Linda1000

She was an “extreme right winger” if we have such a person in Canada. lol

          • DavidinNorthBurnaby

All the better for the mainstream media to portray him as hitlerian. Like Harpo the Young Liberal from Etobicoe Ontario who became an extreme right-wing Albertan.

          • That is just ONE of the reasons why the liberals/Liberals will go after him.

  • simus1

Bet they are all glad that is over.
Can now take off those uncomfortable spine straighteners and return to vote whoring as usual.

  • Brett_McS

The fact that he has given interviews to The Rebel is a pretty good sign.

  • BillyHW
