Greens to unveil plans for universal basic income in manifesto launch

People could get a universal basic income and a shorter working week under plans proposed by the Green party on Monday.

Launching the manifesto, Caroline Lucas, the party’s co-leader, said the proposals were “big, bold ideas to create a confident and caring country we can all be proud of”.

Universal basic income is a terrible idea. Still, what’s a better response to automation stomping through the workplace, with a job loss forecast to be half or thereabouts in the next 20 years?

There is another system in which most workers get the same benefits.
      Slavery.

    • It’s unworkable.

Hmm, one wonders if they will also give out super strong fentanyl l to stop those with basic income from having to shop around for a good dealer.

Don’t tell me. It doesn’t include the “getting rid of welfare” half of the equation.

    • Abu Nudnik

It *is* welfare. Expanded to include the entire population.

From deep in the heart of Silicon Valley, the San Jose Mercury had a front-page article about the basic income issue on Sunday.

No wonder muslim parasites want to come here. EVERYTHING IS FREE IN CANADA!

Where would the money come from? Maybe from higher taxes on people who have actual jobs.

They already have universal basic income, it is called welfare.

    • Watchman

Yeah, but how can people buy their own home on welfare, or holiday every year in the Bahamas, or afford the dream car with the spinning rims?

And that after this is accomplished, and the brave new world begins
When all men are paid for existing and no man must pay for his sins,
As surely as Water will wet us, as surely as Fire will burn,
The Gods of the Copybook Headings with terror and slaughter return

Good. Rational people will know not to vote for The Greens.
