Germany Confiscating Homes to Use for Migrants

Merkel and Soros

Authorities in Hamburg, the second-largest city in Germany, have begun confiscating private dwellings to ease a housing shortage — one that has been acutely exacerbated by Chancellor Angela Merkel’s decision to allow more than two million migrants into the country in recent years.

City officials have been seizing commercial properties and converting them into migrant shelters since late 2015, when Merkel opened German borders to hundreds of thousands of migrants from Africa, Asia and the Middle East. Now, however, the city is expropriating residential property units owned by private citizens.

“The expropriation is authorized by the Hamburg Housing Protection Act (Hamburger Wohnraumschutzgesetz), a 1982 law that was updated by the city’s Socialist government in May 2013 to enable the city to seize any residential property unit that has been vacant for more than four months.”
And don’t think this couldn’t happen here in dear old Canuckistan. Note the words “Socialist government” in the above quote from the article. Another few years of Shiny PM and the Kindergarten cabinet, or their equivalent in the provinces and you could see similar. Frankly, the last 20 years have not been really great to be a landlord, what with “human rights” and rent controls and the whining in the background by the usual suspects about “right to housing”. For most of us, it simply is more trouble than it is worth to try to maintain property and earn income by renting it out to the decreasing pool of responsible tenants. Faced with the situation these Hamburg landlords have, it would be very tempting to demolish the housing and sell the raw land to speculators.

I was going to post a rather pessimist “This will not end well” type of comment but then remembered this is “Refugees Welcome” pathologically altruistic Germany who elected the governments now seizing private property to house the invaders, so . . . f*ck’em!

Yep! Exactly them. And judging by their age, they’ll be voting for quite a long time. Germany is going to get way worse before it gets better.

If it gets better, like France and the UK, etc. And… that’s a mighty big ‘if’.

If billions in expenditures, rampant street crime, an epidemic of sexual assaults, repression of public discourse and now confiscation of private property hasn’t convinced them yet to boot out their current governments and change course, I don’t know what will!

The Quartering Acts required the American colonies to provide room and board for Redcoats. Where the colonial assemblies didn’t comply the British army would quarter troops in private homes of citizens against their will even though this was illegal in Britain. It was one of the irritants leading to the American Revolution. The 3rd Amendment to the US Constitution forbids peacetime billeting of troops without the home owner’s consent.

Don’t give Fuhrer Merkel any more ideas! Next thing you know she’ll be evicting all Jews from Berlin to make room for her favoured Muslim “refugees”. *sigh*

      • Norman_In_New_York

Pushing Jews out of rotting Europe is the best thing that can happen to them. And the sissified German Army is no match for the Poles.

          Amen.

You want to believe it. I watched an adaption of the Battle of Vienna in 1683. It included at the end some scenes from the commerations of the Battle in 2015 in Poland. It was spectacular. Polish commandos carrying a large cross with a life size statue of Jesus upon it. Polish officers of all elements kneeling at a Catholic church service. Beautiful choir music. Poland didn’t forget why their country is still there and Christianity thrives. Germany has lost its way. Which is why it’s falling to these invaders

The UK census of 2011 had a new question on the number of bedrooms in the home as originally designed (no cheating by calling a bedroom a study) plus any new bedrooms added. Already required were the number of people, their gender and relationships. The new question would enable identification of “spare” accommodation for the billeting of invaders. One bedroom for parents and one each for girls and boys if one of them is past puberty. Any more is illiberal.

Here in the worker’s paradise of Canuckistan, its impossible to own anything of substance without the state keeping tabs in us, and thus allowing the state to impose punitive taxes on anything they can get away with.

I had to get permission from the city a few years ago to cut a dead birch tree on my property. A birch tree I owned, on the property I’ve owned for over 25 years. I can see the municipal bylaw preventing owners from razing acres of trees for dubious reasons but even then, the approch of compeling everybody instead of punishing the few abusers is a manifestation of the left’s obsession with control. Property “rights” is an oxymoron in Canada.
