Syria’s Kurds march on to Raqqa and the sea

Syria’s Kurds have revealed plans to redraw the northern part of the country by linking the Kurdish region of Rojava with the Mediterranean Sea, in a move that will infuriate neighbouring Turkey.

In a further sign of growing Kurdish confidence in Syria’s north, officials say that they plan to ask the US for political support in creating a trade corridor to the Mediterranean as part of a deal for their role in liberating Raqqa and other cities from Islamic State (Isis).

Not just Turkey, Iran et al will not like this.

Western nations, including America, will side with the slime Erdogan and the Turks. There will be no Kurdish State.

    • canminuteman

Obama would have. WIth luck Trump will be different.

    • Shebel

I do hope that you are wrong.

  • ntt1

turkey is worried about irs northern kurd area as is iran who also have a huge kurdish north . Kurds have fought well for the liberation of syrias north and they should be supported despite the destabilizing effect a rise of free kurdistan would have on its nieghbours. The west continues to support the wanna be caliph erdigan despite his treachery and general muslim flakeyness, continued support would be an error, lets be on the right side of history this time and suppoert the kurds

    • Shebel

      I would support the Kurds.
Then again—I don’t even know why WE are over There.

      • ntt1

well exactly,, why fight for someone elses vision of nationhood, they must fight and win themselves ( very good possibility) or they will never support their own nation over time.

  • Shebel

Far as I am concerned —we should let them all KILL each other.
    They have a VISION.

  • ismiselemeas

We’ve (the collective post WW1 west) have shat on the Kurds long enough. Give them what they want.

    • Shebel

The Muslims have a Vision .
I think that we have a good clue as to what it is.
      Why are we over there?
Why did we just give Saudi-Arabia ownership over the largest Oil Refinery ? Why do we waste our time voting?

All these invented countries need to have their borders redrawn based on tribal affiliation. The existing borders were drawn up by the colonial powers at the time and failed to take into consideration that these people have no concept or notion of nationhood. So just do away with the artificial borders and allow reality to take its course.

    • Shebel

      Which means—-………. for Israel ?

      • Alain

Israel is a Jewish state which is the glue. It also has the longest claim greatly outdating the arrival of Arab Muslims in any of the now Arab Muslim countries including Jordan. So where would the problem be?

        • Shebel

          – You are the one that said— just do away with the artificial borders and allow reality to take its course.

It would not work out too well.

    • DavidinNorthBurnaby

Or forget about wogs and Arabs being capable of making anything other than chaos and bloodbaths and have the colonial powers take over again. Everyone was better off before all this started.

There is Something–in our hearts or heads– — whether we are religious or not—
That makes us value something from our past.
    For ME it is Israel.
All my childhood stories involved Israel.
    Obviously, I am not alone.
For me—ISRAEL–is a symbol of FREEDOM.
    Nothing more and nothing less.
It is just knowing that IT is there.

  • Shebel

I just read my post. I should refrain from using the word ‘freedom’ in capitol letters.
    It sounds so propagandist.
I don’t mean it that way.

The Turks and Iranians may not like Kurdish independence, but Netanyahu had said that Israel would be the first to recognize a Kurdish state. The Kurds have their own ethnic identity and speak their own language. A contiguous Kurdish state from the heartland in Iraq to the Mediterranean means a pipeline they control for shipping oil from Kirkuk for export. An Israeli-Kurdish alliance would bring order to the region, as well as fielding the world’s toughest military babes.

    • DavidinNorthBurnaby

      Mmmm military babes.
