Prince Philip to step down from public life

The Duke of Edinburgh, who is 95, will no longer carry out public engagements from the autumn of this year, Buckingham Palace has announced.

The Palace said in a statement it was the Duke’s decision taken with the support of the Queen.

Hardly seems worth an “emergency meeting”. Prince Charles not being dead yet. Now there’s an emergency.

    • Yea, it is odd.

Actually that would be a blessing.

Actually, Prince Philip looks pretty good for 95.
Must be something about the Royal Life–

“People think there’s a rigid class system here, but dukes have even been known to marry chorus girls. Some have even married Americans.”

I’m going to miss his sense of humor-like…. When speaking at a British school in Hong Kong, he told the kids not to stay too long or their eyes will grow slitty.
OR- When speaking with a Scottish driving instructor he mused” how do you keep them sober long enough to pass the test?”
Many more gems were uttered from his mouth over the years.

I suspect that he must have suffered a debilitating stroke or something of that nature.

Apparently not. The announcement said would carry out commitments over the summer but would not be accepting any more for the fall, although would attend the occasional event. He and the Queen will be celebrating 70 years of marriage in November. I know it’s consider clever to say the Duke has never “worked”, but he’s been very involved behind the scenes with various organizations; not to mention all the official engagements and tours he’s been on. It all looks rather posh and fun, but there’s a lot of pre-tour work to ensure one has the background knowledge required, let alone having to look interested and talk knowledgeably during what must at time be deadly boring events.
