“Offensive” Star Trek License Plate Withdrawn

Manitoba Public Insurance has revoked a Star Trek fan’s personalized licence plate after receiving complaints that its message — ASIMIL8 — is offensive to indigenous people.

Nick Troller has been driving around with the plate for two years.

(Sidebar: Troller?)

It’s held within a Star Trek licence frame that also bears the quotes, “We are the Borg,” and “Resistance is Futile.”

Troller tells CTV Winnipeg that on his favourite show, an enemy race of aliens called the Borg travel through the galaxy trying to assimilate other cultures into their own.

He says he thought the plate was funny and notes strangers and other Trek fans have complimented him and asked to take photos with the plate.

But Troller got a phone call Wednesday from a staff member at Manitoba Public Insurance who told him two people had complained that the word “assimilate” is offensive to indigenous people.

He also received a letter from MPI on Thursday demanding he “surrender” the plate immediately, telling him he can either get a new plate or a refund on the $100 charge.

“But that’s not the point,” says Troller. “We’ve become way too sensitive. You can’t say anything anymore to anybody.”

Ry Moran, from the National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation, insists the word “assimilate” is too offensive to be on a licence plate.

“For basically the entirety of this country’s history, indigenous peoples have been forcibly assimilated through really extremely destructive means and ways,” he says.

“Words like that, meant or not, have an actual impact on many people.”

    But but but…..big screen TVs…abortions ….firewater……pick up trucks…hatchets….peace pipes….open heart surgery…..insulin….
And an endless bounty of other benefits in assimilating the white mans customs.

    So it’s a false argument…..

Natives want us to follow strict rules when it comes to what they find “offensive”, and the list is long, sudden and arbitrary, so get used to it. Now that they managed to get Senator Lynn Bayek kicked off of a gov’t committee bec they didn’t like her opinion they are becoming very bold. When they can demand the sort of thing we see here, something just the opposite of anyone’s perception of “offensive”, what will it be next? Edmonton has decided to ingratiate itself to Natives. Every public, and private, venue in town now announces how grateful we all are for being permitted to even breath the same air they do and sit in the venues built, not by Natives, but by us. Next they’ll be feeling offended if we walk on their sacred land and demanding we bow to their ancient totem poles and buried ancestors before we cross the low level bridge. I’ve long ago lost patience with this entire ridiculous farce.

Aboriginals were living Stone Age lives when European colonists first arrived. They had not yet come up with the wheel, for example, and were using flint arrowheads. Now, that is downright primitive, making even Central Africans of the time look like geniuses in comparison. That says a lot……

Hmm.. maybe I should rethink that P1N0CH8 plate..

Well, that just goes top show that resistance is indeed futile when it comes to being assimilated into the left’s thought police culture.

The nukes can’t come soon enough.

The “Doctor Who” XTRMN8 plate will also be frowned upon.

  • Jaedo Drax

Better remove it from the dictionary since it’s so offensive.

Next time, instead of using the Borg’s MO, we should try the Dalek’s.
