Millions of Australians have fallen silent as they paid tribute at Anzac Day services across the nation.

The heart of Sydney stood still at dawn as thousands gathered at Martin Place, more than a century after Australia’s soldiers landed on Gallipoli’s shores.

  • The greatest pity of war is not the unavoidable sacrifice of courageous young men in a just cause. It is not even when there is a failure of leadership, flexibility and judgment that magnifies the sacrifice needlessly. The greatest pity would be if our generation and generations in the future allow their sacrifice to be forgotten and, worse, dishonored. That is why it is so important to stand fast against tyranny and collectivism in all their forms.
