Lawrence Solomon: Trump just might make us put on our big-boy pants and make Canada great again

“Let’s not pretend we’re in a global free market when it comes to agriculture,” Prime Minister Justin Trudeau finally told a persistent John Micklethwait, Bloomberg’s editor-in-chief, in an interview Thursday. Trudeau had been bafflegabbing Micklethwait’s inquiry into Canada’s position on NAFTA and free trade, in an attempt to avoid admitting Canadian hypocrisy in preaching free trade while practicing protectionism.

The interview demonstrated Trudeau’s inability to counter the essential truth of President Donald Trump’s assessment that Canada has not been acting honourably.

But who is better that feminist Trudeau to discuss international trade relations. He was a former part time ski instructor and drama teacher. He is so wonderful and cool. And the Amber Alert has been cancelled, he was on a selfie tour in Toronto last night, where he was handing out awards to successful Toronto blacks. No reports of gun shots or stabbings at the event. I always enjoy watching the morning news, to see the daily shootings and stabbings in diverse Toronto.

    • I have every confidence in Justin to begin mechanically mouthing meaningless liberal-left platitudes at the drop of a hat, if the going gets tough he can bring up Malala.

Begins? There has never been anything else coming out of his mouth.

Gee Trudy…..this could play havoc with your supply management….Quebec and its monopoly of milk cheese butter production…..does that mean we have to increase our transfer payments to Quebec?
They already get ten million out of 17 Billion collected…isn’t that enough?

Ten Billion out of 17 Billion.

The Toronto STAR and 640 am radio seems to think that it’s Trump’s job to get Trudeau re-elected in 2019.
Liberals have screwed over the USA for decades now and bad mouthed it….. Trudeau should be glad we don’t live next to Lebanon or Gaza.

How stupid can a Liberal be to treat a neighbour like crap and yet expect them to keep shopping at your Store that you own . The CBC doesn’t care about ISIS and yet jumps at the change to attack Trump for be pro-USA.

Come on, who are you kidding, “Big Boy Pants”?

As long as Canada is spending .88% of GDP on Canada’s military the country will be viewed by most of the world as still being diapers. Military spending is running about $20B shy of what it should be. Who will take Trudeau seriously?

… we love to talk about sovereignty, about how we punch above our weight in the world. Well, it’s time to pay. As I’ve said before, we can’t sit at the G8 table and when the waiter arrives with the bill, excuse ourselves to go to the washroom. We’ve been doing just that, and trading in our Pearsonian reputation rather than fulfilling the Pearsonian vision.

Furthermore, the priority for our defence spending must be continental defence. We must secure our coastlines and our airspace. And to be truly sov- ereign, this is not an option, it is a necessity. John Manley

Taken literally the statement “let’s not pretend we’re in a global free market when it comes to agriculture” is correct, but not in the sense assumed here. I disagree strongly with supply-management, but I also know that the Americans and other countries also highly subsidise their agriculture; just in more hidden ways. In fact a global free (I mean in the true sense) market does not exist in spite of all those promoting it. We cannot even manage actually free trade between provinces much less with other countries. It pains me to say this, because it appears that I am giving the puppet man-child credit for it, but it is likely from one of his advisors and intended to mean something different from my take.

“Trump Just Might Make Us Put On Our Big-Boy Pants And Make Canada Great Again”

I’d settle for “Trump Pants Trudeau”, that works too.
