    When are people going to drop the pretense and admit that American academia is a terrible fraud? Most truly ground breaking work is going on outside the U.S. We still lead the world in churning out politicians and ‘studies’ experts.

    Reminds me of the time, way back in 1985, when I did a hiring seminar/job interview at Trent University at Peterborough, Ontario. During lunch, I wanted to be nice to the chair of the economics department. I complemented the quality of questions directed to me, concerning the academic paper I had presented. I said that “you have good undergraduate students here” (even though I thought that wasn’t true). With a straight face, he said “All the questions asked were from the faculty”.
