Marvel! Readers tire of partisan comics

From Christian Toto at Hollywood in Toto:

The Marvel universe has embraced diversity with a passion. And it doesn’t simply mean a glut of new characters who better represent the culture’s ethnic and gender diversity. The comic book company radically transformed its most beloved stars.

Iron Man is now a black teenage girl. Thor is a woman. Captain America is black. Ms. Marvel is a Muslim teenage girl.

And then there’s the company’s partisan storytelling, Last year, Marvel tweaked the classic villain Modok to look and sound like Donald Trump. A recent “Captain America” story cast anti-immigration foes as the villains. More.

It was a huge hit with everyone but the readers.  As Marvel’s VP of Sales David Gabriel recently whiffled,

What we heard was that people didn’t want any more diversity. They didn’t want female characters out there. That’s what we heard, whether we believe that or not. I don’t know that that’s really true, but that’s what we saw in sales.

Reality check: We believe it even if he doesn’t. Readers’ tastes hadn’t changed at all. The company was being pressured by Correctness thugs, and the thugs are not the market.

This helps us see why political correctness eventually requires government control even of trivial media. Just think, lots of jobs for junior jackboots once they graduate from assaulting the profs with whom they disagree.

Note: Comment of the week, below: Wonder Woman and Rogue were actual characters, not props for Social Justice. If the clowns running Marvel can’t tell the difference, there’s no hope for them.

“They didn’t want female characters out there”

Wonder Woman and Rogue were actual characters, not props for Social Justice. That’s the difference.

    • There was a time when these “graphic novels” told stories.

      Now, they are templates.

      The readers have had enough.

Wonder Woman was originally conceived as a prop for social justice. Oh, wait, she wasn’t conceived, she was made out of clay and animated by Zeus.

      Still, you get the idea.

Possibly, but somewhere along the way she did become an actual character.

If they don’t have a Muslim physically disabled transgendered person of colour with Downs syndrome as a superhero then the government should obviously fine them to teach them a lesson and get them in line!

At one point I looked into Marvel as a possible avenue for illustration work. The creative end of it is dominated by SJW millennials.

It isn’t Stan and Jack’s Marvel, anymore.

Meanwhile DC has a great story going on.

So when is feminist Trudeau going to be a trans gender woman in a comic? He already is one in real life.

When entertainment mediums head to the left politically, all they do is veer into the ditch of obscurity.

This is why SJWs are such scum. It’s clear that the real problem is that people do not want existing characters to suddenly have their races and genders changed just for the sake of political correctness and “diversity”. There have always been plenty of female characters in Marvel and readers have welcomed them with open arms. Some of Marvel’s most popular characters are female and integeral to multiple storylines. But this slimy SJW feels the need to lie and claim that female characters are not wanted by the readers. I guess when you completely screw something up it’s easy to blame it on your audience for not being “enlightened” enough to appreciate your brilliant artistic vision.
