Justice wants ‘sanctuary cities’ in California and 7 other states to cooperate with immigration enforcement

The Justice Department today fired an opening shot in the Trump administration’s crackdown on so-called sanctuary cities, sending letters to eight jurisdictions asking for proof that they are cooperating with immigration enforcement, and indicating they are at risk of losing federal grants.

The letters went to the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, as well as officials in Chicago, New Orleans, Philadelphia, Las Vegas, Miami, Milwaukee and New York.

All have laws or policies that restrict the ability of police and jails to hand over people who are in the country illegally to federal immigration officers.

The “sanctuary cities” were a reaction to Obama-era policies that enlisted local police in immigration enforcement. They have come under heavy attack from President Trump and Atty. Gen. Jeff Sessions.

  • Long over due.

    Drain the leftist swamp!

  • It’s rather like closing the barn door after the horses have fled.

Certain elements have legitimised breaking the law, setting various tiers of legitimate immigrants and many illegal ones.

The system MIGHT be fixed but not for a long, long time.

I hope the governor of Vermont got one of these letters, and the Mayor of Vermont’s capitol city, Montpelier, as well.

I would think that Berserkly should be on that list as it was just discovered that the Mayor is a member of Antifa
