Some Faculty Say Diversity Lowers Academic Quality

Harvey Mudd College has been roiled by a self-study, informally titled the Wabash report, that referred to some anonymous faculty declaring that efforts to promote diversity in the student body had lowered the quality of the school.  At first, the school tried to block publication or censor parts of the report, completed in 2015, but leaks began and The Student Life, the school newspaper, ran what it said was the full report on March 24 of this year.

If you give positions based on race and not on qualifications, what do you expect?

    • I thought these were smart people?

        Oh, silly you.

What is now called diversity is affirmative action under a different name, and it always lowers the standards not only of universities of every place it is practised. It also does great harm to members of these groups who are able to qualify on their own without special treatment, since they end up being lumped in with the majority who cannot meet the requirements on their own merit.

diversity is the gerrymandering of admissions and hiring processes to undermine the merit system for political goals

    • Frances

That always was the case – the minority students who did meet qualifications and did well faced a future where their qualifications and competence would be suspect.

    Ouch.

    Facts hurt, don’t they liberals.

I’ll put in asterisks and symbols not to offend because apparently, meritocra%y is a dirty word now.
