Imam refuses to read last rites of student killed for “blasphemy”

Outrage and hatred continue after a Pakistani university journalism student was brutally beaten by an angry mob of fellow classmates Thursday.

The day before his death, Marshal Khan allegedly engaged in a heated debate with fellow students over whether the offspring of Adam and Eve would have married each other, which led to him being accused of blasphemy against Islam, according to India Times.

The following day, a mob of students busted into Khan’s hostel room, dragged him outside naked, and publically beat the man to death using sticks and broken glasses while shouting, “Allahu Akbar.”

On Friday, the Imam at the local mosque outright refused to read the last rites at Khan’s funeral. The report states that a technician who was asked to read the rites in place of the cleric was later approached by several angry people after the ceremony.
