Wynne Liberals ”shrug” as vets forced to sell Legion Hall to pay $48K hydro bills

It’s not for lack of trying, either. According to the branch’s MPP, Vic Fedeli, legion officials have switched to energy-efficient appliances, replaced lightbulbs with LEDs, and done their best to conserve—but these efforts haven’t amounted to any substantive change.

WTF is wrong with the people who live in ontario.

    • Millie_Woods

They believed a fairytale. Now they’re trapped in a nightmare.

      • Waffle

        Grimmer than Grimm.

Need a finger in the dyke.

    • mobuyus

      Not mine.

  • Millie_Woods

‘..but these efforts haven’t amounted to any substantive change.’

In other words, as useless as the whole green energy scam.

  • I do know that veterans voted for Trudeau over Harper.

If they expected the Liberals to give a sh– about their sacrifices, they were sorely mistaken.

    • Drunk_by_Noon

Just how the hell flawed must Harper have been?

      • El Martyachi

He was simply not a shake-stuff-up kinda guy. Too reasonable of a figure to break the progressive chokehold on everything, more of a Romney than Trump.

        • Drunk_by_Noon

He in other words didn’t know how to fight back and was slandered and smeared by a much worse choice.
          Well done Conservatives!
You lost the war but were able to declare a moral Pyrrhic victory.
He might as well have been Hitler.

          • El Martyachi

He’s still my favourite PM of modern times. And to be fair the rot is too deep here to be overcome electorally. We’re not the USA.

          • El Martyachi

And seriously, if we somehow elected a Trump type he’d end up Mohammed Morsi’ed in months.

          • Drunk_by_Noon

So in other words, ‘only a Hitler can save Canada’.

          • El Martyachi

Maybe if Hitler was riding an asteroid.

          • El Martyachi

Maybe he coulda done it.. I dunno .. but it would have taken way longer.. like another 15 years at least . His main mistakes IMHO were not smashing the bureaucracy and educations unions and, of course, the CBC. The CBC should have been a test pattern 24 hours after he was elected. But that’s not his style anyway.. he was always framed as a radical by libs but he’s moderate to the core.

          • Alain

Moderate and timid at that which resulted in his incrementalism even when he had a bloody majority. That in my view was his major weakness. Trudeau arrives and within only a few months basically undoes just about every small bit of improvement made by Harper. Another major mistake made by Conservatives in Canada is listening to the advisors whispering in their ear about the need to make nice, etc. Yet no matter how much they compromise they are and will be called dictators and tyrants, and of course Hitler.

          • El Martyachi

I don’t share your optimism. Our schools have been indoctrination centres for 2 full generations now. That’s not getting fixed at the ballot box.

          • El Martyachi

And we’re also a stronghold of the globalist oligarchy. That’s not easy to break.

        • Alain

A huge part of that was due to the outright lies and disinformation by the MSM that carried on non-stop for about 9 or 10 years.

          • El Martyachi

Well, at least a new generation of western Canadian kids will grow up hating a Trudeau. In elementary school, on the playground, I remember a joke.. “What does Petro Canada stand for? Pierre Elliot Trudeau ruined our Canada”.

He does have unreasonably excellent hair though. Undeniably.

      • Harper enacted legislation that Martin brought through. He handed veterans a lump sum as opposed to lifelong pension.

        Now, they have nothing:

        http://www.torontosun.com/2017/04/08/many-wounded-war-veterans-feel-trudeau-has-let-them-down

    • Alain

The ones I know in my area most certainly did not vote Liberal, I guess it depends on which veterans and where they reside. In fact the ones I know are very aware of the extent that the Liberals, yes all of them, did everything to belittle, underfund and undermine the military. I won’t even mention the ridiculous change of uniforms.

      • And yet there was a charge against Harper in 2015.

I don’t feel sorry for ANYONE who has voted Liberal. They now have the government they deserve.

        Screw them.

  • LairdKintyre

One word Me Wynne, “”DISGUSTING””. How dare you? Resign.

  • Bla Bla

Hard to tell the difference between Mad Maduro of venezuela and Wonky Wynne of ontario. Both tell their people to fuck off and eat cake.

  • tom_billesley

The hall will probably be used as a mosque.

    • LairdKintyre

No doubt about it. Islamists love symbolic victories like this.

  • DMB

The Liberals never gave a damn about are veterans and are soldiers. Liberals only care about pride parades, 3rd world migration and enriching the public sector.

    • Clausewitz

Hate this commercial. It’s fitting that it’s sung as a dirge and not an anthem like it was originally written as.

  • canminuteman

The wort of it is the building is effectively worthless. Whoever buys it will also have to pay the same hydro bill. Someone will have to find a use for the building that is lucrative enough to cover the 48k a year bill. Good luck with that. Of course all commercial real estate will have the same problem.

  • Jaedo Drax

At $0.26/kwh it is cheaper to run a 20kw generator that pay for electricity from the government monopoly.
