Could Scotland leave the UK and join CANADA?

Nicola Sturgeon, PM of Scotland, is the woman on the left.

Ken McGoogan, whose works include How the Scots Invented Canada, said that geographical boundaries could be irrelevant thanks to modern technology, so Scotland should find its new home with Canadian colleagues.

In an opinion piece for The Globe and Mail, the author wrote: ‘The Scots aren’t happy with the rest of Britain.

Like the Falklands with golf.

  • Hard Little Machine

Oh sure. Now make the Scots learn French. See how that goes.

    • Slickfoot

Now that made me smile… unintelligible English translated into unintelligible French.

  • Reader

    Auk, no!

  • Tooth&Claw

Don’t acquire territory you cannot defend.

    • LairdKintyre

Give me my ancestral lands there back. And then this I’ll defend. No cause to worry.

  • Millie_Woods

We can swap them for Quebec. How’s that for a lose/lose trade?

    • barryjr

      It’s a loser.

  • Martin B

Oh goody! Five million more Socialists! Just what we need!

The cream of the Scottish crop left Scotland long ago for Canada, America & Australia. What’s left behind is not worth having.

    • LairdKintyre

Thank you. I am part of that cream of the crop. A full three quarters of my ancestors were Scottish Highlanders.from the Hebrides and West Coast. The remainder were Irish and English.. My folks have been in Canada 200 years now. Many MacDonald, 22 lines of descent alone. And my last MacDonald ancestor was in my 2X great grandfathers generation

  • barryjr

We have enough welfare regions that don’t speak English, no thanks.

  • Maggat

“Nicola Sturgeon, PM of Scotland, is the woman on the left.”
    Oh that’s a good one.

    • tom_billesley

Yep. Her job title is First Minister, not Prime Minister.

      • Whoops sorry about that. I’m going to blame these happy pills that say ‘caution may impair vision’.

    • Maggat

I meant to add, who then, is the woman on the right?

  • J. C.

    Trudeau AND Sturgeon…?!?!?!

    Kill me now. 🙁

  • Jay Currie

As I recall, something like 75% of Scots are on the dole or work for the government or are on pension or disability…

A large part of Scotland is low grade tundra and tree farms. (We have plenty and ours are prettier.)

Its oil reserves have almost run out.

It would be like an annex to Newfoundland without the actual oil.

    Er, no thanks.

    • WalterBannon

except Newfoundland is better, it is not full of muslims

    • ntt1

what about the massive free range haggis areas? Sure i enjoy the store bought variety but you just don’t know what goes into it, far better the organic free range beast naturaly seasoned by the variety of browse its grazed on.

  • WalterBannon

I hope not. We already have enough leftists and enough muslims.

  • Spatchcocked

    They make ferocious soldiers……Och aye!
They’re a very thrifty people……they’ve been poisoned by socialism of course but the fundamentally sound genetic makeup is intact.
This country was built by the Scottish don’t forget.

I vote we let them take us over.

    • LairdKintyre

Sounds like description of nova Scotia. But then we were born of Scotland.

      • Clausewitz

My family tree dates back to the clearances in the 1700’s when my ancestor’s were paid to come over and clear off the Acadians from the Annapolis Valley in NS. We’ve done our share, we really don’t need any of today’s ponzi Scots in Canada. They’re part of the problem, not the solution.

  • robins111

Newfoundland, Quebec and possibly Scotland. Canada the only country in the world with provinces that nobody can understand the language.

  • Dave

    More bagpipes??? Kill me now!!!!

    • LairdKintyre

      What’s wrong with bagpipes?

      • Dave

I’ll ask you a question that’s much easier to answer. What’s right with bagpipes. The answer: nothing. Unless you like the sound of kittens getting (slowly) squashed!

        • LairdKintyre

I’m a Scotsman. My folks have been in Canada 2 centuries. When I hear the call of the pipes that led my forefathers into battle for centuries, it stirs my blood. It makes me feel like I’m 8 feet tall, and I wouldn’t put much stock in the chances of my opponent when I hear the call. Alba gu Bra.

          • Dave

I’m of Viking heritage (the real reason the Scots had “intestinal fortitude”) and we didn’t play the screechy pipes!
            Just saying.

    • Clausewitz
  • k1962

No thanks. Two official languages are enough 😉

    • tom_billesley

Scotland has three languages, Scottish English – a dialect of English, Lowland Scots, and Gaelic. Think of the job opportunities for translators.

      • k1962

We don’t need more government paid employees.

  • andycanuck

Does this mean I’m entitled to give Justin a Glasgow handshake if I ever meet him?

    • J. C.

      Or a Glasgow kiss??? 😉

      • andycanuck

Same thing. And “Liverpool” is also a suitable substitution but being “English” doesn’t fit the premise.

  • Gary

Nicola should visit Toronto and take a good look at the hatred towards Whites and hard working people. It’s about 10 years away from being a non-white non-canadian background hell-hole like Detroit.

  • Clausewitz

Why would we want the Scots when we already have a bunch of ungrateful, whining, leftist assholes in the citizens of Quebec. Remember they are Quebeckers, not Canadians. These Scottish gits would just be more of the same. This coming from a Scots/Irish mutt myself.
