Russian warship heads toward US destroyers after strike on Syria

  • Clink9

Maybe lob some nerve gas at the Russians?

  • deplorabledave

The plot thickens. Let the wailing and gnashing of teeth begin.

  • Spatchcocked

Just showing the flag is all.

  • Hard Little Machine

It’s the lead ship of a brand new class of frigates the Russians building. It was commissioned barely a year ago. Of the 6 ships to be built 3 of them will be sold to India. TheAdmiral Grigorovich is about 2/3rds the size of either of the Arleigh Burke class destroyers used to launch cruise missiles.

One bizarre issue with the remaining Admiral Grigorovich ships is that their gas turbines were originally supplied by a Ukrainian firm and now the Russians have to source their own engines now.

    • marty

Not really bizarre. Plenty of military industry is in Ukraine including aerospace, rocketry, etc.

      • Hard Little Machine

Maybe invading the Ukraine wasn’t the well thought out plan they hoped it would be.

        • El Martyachi

Check out the bulava missile developent for an acute example of this.

    • andycanuck

      LOL about the engines. 🙂

  • Abu Nudnik

Does anyone know their route? Did they come through the Bosphorus? When? How many ships are on the Black Sea? In the Mediterranean? Were there before the attack?

  • Will Quest

Why is the USA involved in this bloody sectarian civil war. Syrian jihadis decided to overthrow Assad , a benign secular regime ….. so f-ing triggered by secular rule, the islamist rebels/jihadi went on a bloody rampage to impose their version of sharia .
& the west will waste massive treasure and life to drain that islamic sewage holding tank ….WHY ????

    • Justin St.Denis

Ahem! At the risk of bursting your bubble, the “Syrian conflict” has nothing to do with islamic issues/differences. Its about building an oil pipeline (or not). Look it up.

      • Will Quest

Are you serious ………. talk about bubbles that need to be burst….. that conspiracy theory of an oil pipeline conflict is sappy…

    • Norman_In_New_York

Because if the treaty banning chemical weapons proves to be just a scrap of paper, there will be more such attacks, and not all aimed at other Arabs. Furthermore, this will open the door to biological and nuclear attacks. Trump’s response is far better than Obama’s cowardice, which led Assad to believe he could get away with these atrocities.

      • Will Quest

Thanks , that makes a lot of sense , the line in the sand on chemical weapons and landmines is admirable…..

  • deplorabledave

From appeaser in chief to Commander in Chief, a breath of fresh.

  • Hard Little Machine

Maybe put the atomic Tomahawks back into service…

  • Norman_In_New_York

Whether or not this is directly connected to the chemical attack, Russia has now declared “West Jerusalem” to be Israel’s capital, professed friendship toward Israel’s people and pledged to uphold access by all believers to Jerusalem’s holy sites. To me, Putin fears Israeli intervention in Syria.

    • Alain

At the same time Russia has declared “East” Jerusalem to belong to the Arabs. This is still pretty much the same old “two-state” narrative. The Arabs have no legal or other valid claim on Jerusalem, full stop.

      • Norman_In_New_York

That’s true, but nobody else has recognized ANY part of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital. The Russian statement will not sit well with the ayatollahs, Hezbollah or even Assad for that matter.

        • Alain

          Valid point.

  • Jaedo Drax

The 2 destroyers aren’t there any more, it’s not like they are going to hang around. They are on their way to a safe place that has a replenishment ship to rearm.

    • Clausewitz

As expected, in the end the Russian Frigate showed up fashionably late.

  • Jaedo Drax

Also, to point out, there are still 4 Ohio Class SSGNs out there somewhere, and their load out is 154 tomahawks each.

  • Why so serious, Russia?
