Fears in India over spread of ‘Taliban-like’ moral policing amid crackdown on meat and romance

Controversial “anti-Romeo” squads to police and control young couples in public are spreading across India after they were introduced by the firebrand Hindu leader of the country’s largest state, Uttar Pradesh.

The squads of plain-clothed and uniformed police officers have been accused of “Taliban-like” moral policing by patrolling public spaces to prevent men from loitering near women. The authorities claim they are only trying to protect women from sexual harassment.

Its also a state infamous for its persecution of Christians. I know an Indian pastor there, who keeps me informed of terrible stories of Christians being beaten and forced from their homes.

Can we finally get away from the practice of looking the other direction when the offensive religion is NOT Islam?
Islam is bad, and likely the worst, but it doesn’t mean that any other non-Christian religion in conflict with them is by any means good.

    • I don’t recall Hindus looking after their g-d- poor but I do recall a Catholic nun doing so.

Many Indian parents send their children to Catholic schools so that their children may not be caste-bound and have a future.
