Despite Stringent Gun Control, One ‘Child or Youth’ Shot Every Day in Ontario

According to The Star, the lead author of the study, Dr. Natasha Saunders, said, “A child or youth injured by a gun each day in this province is staggering.” She believes this should serve as impetus for doctors to be more involved in the conversation about firearms in Ontario, including conversations between doctors and their patients.

It sounds to me like they need to start teaching Gun Safety classes in school.

    “Lies, damn lies, and statistics.”

    • J. C.

You mean “There are lies, damned lies, and then there’s the Toronto Star…”

      😉

      • andycanuck

And, apparently, Sick Kids Hospital, JC. (Princess Margaret cancer lottery tickets for me from now on… when I can afford them.)

    • andycanuck

Yeah. The CityPulse News scroll omitted how many of the less-than-365 had died indicating b.s.

    • JoKeR

She was on television talking about how very disproprotionately recent immigrants are the innocent victims of gun violence.

There were no statistics mentioned on the source of the violence and whether recent immigrants are also the “disproprotionately” (to use her word) the perpetrators of the violence. Then that might indicate if they knew the victims and if the victims were always so “innocent” or if it might involved business conflicts.

      • Frances

Without information on the perpetrators of said gun violence, and how many of the guns were “legal”, this is nothing but DISINFORMATION.

  • General P. Malaise

really? I call bullsh!t on this. 365 children injured by guns in ontario every year. the star isn’t worth the paper it is printed on. FAKE NEWS.

    • Clink9

It’s supposed to include BB and pellet guns also.

You’ll shoot your eye out kid!

      • andycanuck

Oh. That was the sin of omission in the various brief reports I read.

      • General P. Malaise

that is still a lie. if it happened it would be front page for days and it would not matter if it was a pellet gun or bb gun.

        • Clink9

I’m just quoting something from Twitter.

I’ve also heard crossing the street is extremely dangerous and not recommended by liberals.

    • felis gracilis

Hey, the CBC has it too. So it must be true. How could we possibly disbelieve both the RedStar and Peter Personsbridge? That would be so unCanadian.

    • Clausewitz

If this was real, the gun mishaps from every day would be the lead news story on all the usual suspect networks.

    • But, but, “…more people die from slipping in bathtubs” (Joe Biden).

  • WalterBannon

maybe deporting some of the violent third world refugees and migrants might fix things

more than half the city is not even canadian

    • Clausewitz

Guessing this includes the gang related yute violence so prevalent in Ontario’s capital. Of course there you also have 30 year old teenagers coming from the middle east so they would be included in this study. One last thing, do misfiring bomb making incidents skew these results in any manner?

      • andycanuck

Are you thinking of the recent study that stated that immigrants were more likely to be shot (and killed? or both?) than regular Canadians with the implication being that racist white Canadians were shooting honest persons of colour? (Saw that one yesterday somewhere too.)

Addendum: From Mauser 98’s comment below, it looks like it was part and parcel of the same “study” as the accidental injury/death to children study.

        • Clausewitz

Funny how our political betters have totally missed that whole Shia vs Sunni paradigm.

      • marty_p

I’m getting pretty good at the game of “Guess which group is responsible for the crime” when the P*ki Pulse News reporter attending to a crime scene reports “Police are looking for a man….if you have seen a man, please call Crime Stoppers”.

  • Martin B

Does this study mention how many of those guns were fired by Somalis?

Stricter gun control or stricter Somali control. Which policy do you think would be more effective at reducing gunfire injuries and crime in general, Dr Saunders?

  • terrence22

Chicago has some of the most stringent gun control laws in the USA. It also has one of the highest gun related murder rates; but it is almost all black on black murder.

If it is Somali on Somali gun related murder that is about as good as it is Chicago.

    …..TorStar Orwell madness

‘immigrants had a lower rate of unintentional firearm injury’

‘Children and youth in rural areas were more prone to unintentional
firearm injuries, but urban residence was positively associated with the
risk of assault from a firearm.’

“It’s hard to extrapolate but vulnerable youth are more likely to be victimized,”

Only (3) seems to be a firearm.
      I love leverguns.

      • Maggat

Ya, there sure is something about the Winchester Model 94 isn’t there.
First gun I bought, and I was 15 at the time.

  • Alain

The usual BS from the anti-gun zealots, the same ones who require smelling salts if a child draws a picture of a gun. The figures are questionable to say the least, and again no distinction made between legal gun owners and the thugs and criminals. The claim that children in rural areas were more prone to unintentional firearm (remember that pellet guns are classified as firearms in Canada) injuries is one whopper of a lie.

  • J. C.

If kids were really getting shot that often, the stories of the individual ‘incidents’ would have been all over the news given the MSM’s tendency to spin anything gun-related in a negative manner… Nope. This is total B.S.

  • FactsWillOut

“Firearm-related injuries” no doubt includes cops and libtards beating folk up or starting fights because of anonymous tips, chewing pop-tarts into guns, etc.

  • El Martyachi

How many of these “Ontario” shootings are Toronto?

  • lolwut? (Deplorable Hoser)

    “Youths”

Where have I heard that before?

  • Gary

    Here we go again.
Ever since the U.N. changed the definition of a child from the old 5-12 years where it’s now 5-18…… the 18 year old black youths in welfare ghettos that deal in drugs are now “Chiiiilllllldren” according to the media.

When I researched the child obesity crisis that the teacher exploited as Food nazi’s while the NDP wanted more taxes on snacks. The charts I found showed NO child obesity crisis from its slow rise since 1955 where children ( 5-12 ) got taller with a slight weight gain that didn’t show if it was from muscle or body size as the height went up.
What I did see was small jump in teens from the 16 to 17 range but none of the STATS broke down for refugees or Canada born teens because when the UN made a Child be up to 18…. they were coming into canada without a parent to make a refugee claim as a child.
There was also a jump in weight gain for people over 73 , but that to didn’t mention about the immigrants bring in over weight grand parents where it was a status symbol to be obese which showed wealth.

    LIES LIES LIES.

McCallum and Trudeau told us that the 25,000 muslim refugees were professionals from Syria and would pay back the costs may times over.

Well, just listen to the spin by the Somali muslim MP that tries to hide the Christian employment rate of 53% when the unskilled Muslims have 90% still on welfare as parasites like the 1990’s somali’s that screwed us over are bogus refugees.

Better ban sports! More thank 10s of thousands of injuries to youth last year in Ontario. And reading, as eye strain is pretty high too.

The best part is that the article cites that immigrants and/or their children have more guns than the rest of canadian citizens….so is it bigoted to insist then to take away their guns as it is a form of profiling?

  • Ed

What would the prevailing hue be of these children?

  • marty_p

I heard an interview where the guest stated that “Violent crime is decreasing due to the fact that Canada’s population is aging as the Baby Boomers reach their 60’s.”
To which I yelled back at the TV “So since it’s declining our F*cking stupid govt has decided to import criminals to keep the quota of violent crime up”.

    • General P. Malaise

I don’t think crime is decreasing. if you report something the police try to get the person to not report.

the police have become politicized. they generally collect revenue (fines and traffic violations) and protect the political elite. the rest are on their own.
