Controversial University of Toronto prof gets warm welcome at Western day after protests at McMaster

Driven from McMaster University campus in Hamilton by an angry mob just the day before, Jordan Peterson was welcomed at Western University, like a rock star.

The controversial University of Toronto professor saw his hour-long speech interrupted only by bursts of applause from the more than 700 that packed the natural sciences building. His speech ended with a standing ovation, and after, he was mobbed outside for selfies from the adoring crowd, mostly young men, more than a few sporting hats declaring Make America Great Again.

To be fair, social activists don’t wake up until noon in their parent’s basements.

  • christopher swift

And Western looks like the cutting edge of a renewal of freedom of expression….mac just another dumb bunch of sjw fascists.

    • Clausewitz

I teach at Mac. The protests were lead primarily from the Humanities depart and the “Studies” Prof’s. Sadly these asswipes made all of us look bad.

      • Robin

Why don’t you send them a letter explaining how you view their behaviour? Oh, right, you’re afraid of them.

        • Clausewitz

Why would I send them a letter when I make my opinions known in class on a daily basis. A good teacher needs to know how to argue both sides of an issue, and since 90% of the Prof’s at Mac are pseudo Marxists, there are only a few of us who defend the other side. This is the attitude that proliferates the idea that all teachers are lefty unionist hacks, while those of us who try to bring balance are forever being left hanging in the wind by “Right of Center” supporters. Didn’t see you or any other Conservative at the Board meetings at the Peel School board during the Muslim take over meetings. There was support from several conservatives but bugger all from the Provincial PC party.

          • Robin

Far far away from Peel School board to have been able to protest but I’ve made efforts to protest the bullying by Muslims and PC-brigades and Marxist teachers.

My issue is that people who attend universities experiencing the pervasive and degrading influence of SJWs and their ilk are often too slow to protest. Very rarely an reaction is mustered to show malcontent against their behaviour.

Here in Sweden I regularly engage with people on the left, I put myself on the line at my job for them to attack me through. I engage with known profiles who are vehemently on the left that can, if they want, destroy me on a whim. Therefore I believe I’m doing enough to be one of the active individuals pushing against these insane individuals.

          • Clausewitz

Hey, you’re preaching to the choir. Sadly conservative educators who use common sense and a sense of “real” justice, and a regard for the rule of law are few and far between these days. Education at the University and High School level is a late life new career for me. The reason I followed this path was because I wanted to do something about the way young men were treated in the High School level, and the constant stupidity of University level leftists. We are the ones who never get any press, unless of course it’s used as a bludgeon to silence differing opinions.

In case anyone is interested Vlad Tepes has the complete talk and Q and A from Peterson’s discussion of a week ago in Ottawa; but it’s long! (over an hour):

I can’t read the story. I’m not subscribed.
What a wonderful way to start the day with such good news. Where is Western University?

    • ontario john

London Ontario, where the police have Arabic messages on their cars.

      • Sunshine

Are you serious? This just makes my day. There is hope for our young people in Ontario. Thank You.

    • moraywatson

Try this. Same story from the original source at London Free Press. http://www.lfpress.com/2017/03/18/jordan-peterson-got-a-warm-reception-at-campus-lecture

      • Sunshine

Thank you. I just read it.
Peterson should always charge a small entry fee. That’s one thing protestors will never do – Give him money.

The Peterson event at Western was awesome! It was sold out, with over 700 attendees at $5 a ticket, the vast majority of whom were well behaved young adults. There were no shenanigans; instead lots of admiration and respect for Prof Peterson, who must have found the reception both validating and cathartic after the infantile reactions at McMaster the day before, and at UofT in general.

The first thing Peterson noted was that the audience was 90% male, although he wasn’t exactly sure why. He did comment that there seem to be few in academia these days who understand how to talk to men.

Peterson is very easy on the ears. No psychobabble, no pc bullshit, and arguments that contain a premise, evidence and a conclusion. It is no wonder he is considered a threat by the braying left he finds so contemptible.

Barbara Kay tweeted the following this morning: “Western found the magic bullet protecting free speech. Make attendees pay to get in.” I thought she was joking!

  • Blacksmith

I love the idea that Canadian and US conservatives can use MAGA as a catch phrase, We are after all North America, We just need to make sure mehico is part of Central America.

    • LairdKintyre

We all share the same postal Code, Freedom..

      • Blacksmith

        Amen to that one!

  • LairdKintyre

I’ve been listening to some of Prof Peterson’s online Maps of Meaning Courses. He is a very smart and we’ll spoken man and it to the Millenials discredit that they are vilifying this man.

  • A Hamilton Guy

My compliments to Western and the Prof. Now you where to send your kid.

  • Robin

The lovely left wing is out protecting and respecting the freedom of speech of others, even those they dissent with.
