In other non-news, Hollywood comedy still doesn’t get it

Still worth recording though: From Brent Bozell at Townhall:

Just as the liberal “news” media have doubled down on fierce liberal activism since President Trump’s inauguration, Hollywood is pushing the leftist agenda. Variety celebrates the crusade — that is what this is — in an article headlined “TV Gets Woke: How Scripted Series Are Confronting Social Issues Like Never Before.”

It is not that Hollywood should be political; it is that the industry must be political. Even the sitcoms need to be political. “Social media is in a constant conversation about things,” proclaimed NBC Entertainment President Jennifer Salke. “It doesn’t feel authentic to not address what’s going on in the world and what people are really talking about. I think that’s a sweet spot for comedy in general.” More.

Reality check: People who cannot learn from tanking ratings are doomed. The problem isn’t whether comedy is or should be political. The problem is that Hollywood’s politics and concerns don’t connect with those of mainstream viewers so much now. Viewers want to work and pay their debts, not to celebrate the gay lifestyle. That said Hollywood should produce whatever it wants. People are finding their own answers now anyway, especially while the internet remains free.

I was talking with a young guy who has had some success as a writer in the film industry, not a bigwig or anything but does have a couple credits to his name. We got talking about sitcoms specifically and I mentioned how I thought the industry was killing the genre and nothing produced in the last few years would hold any resonance in the years to come and they weren’t making anything that would become classic, like Cheers or WKRP. I pushed further by saying that currently the writing is overtly political at the expense of the comedy, to which he asked “But why would you do anything if it didn’t make a political or social comment?”. When I suggested it be done just in the interest of comedy and entertainment, he looked at me like I had two heads; he just couldn’t even conceive of the idea of entertainment for entertainments sake.

Bradbury conceived of a future like this 60 years ago.

      • Clausewitz

Orwell nailed it pretty well too.

This is the status of things now.

Didn’t “All in the Family” et al change us from the fairly sane to “Meatheads?”

When Roe v Wade was decided the majority of people were against abortion. Now we have the spectacle of “Catholics for Choice” and I guess a million other such organizations and Planned Parenthood is a sacred institution that we MUST support with our tax dollars tithing the god of abortion.

Having to accept faggotry with a smile and accepting even more insane and inane forms of feminism and thinking we can ever be at peace with adherents of mo’s death cult is idiocy we will support with out tax dollars. Welcome to the new police state.

Has any of this writing and caterwauling supposedly supporting our traditional culture since the 70ies done anything ? No. I suspect a lot of it is just pure fundraising.

Different methods, more direct, must be used to set us right.

Leftist dogma is rejected whenever it is overt, so the next logical step for the facist left is to limit our choices, to institute the same control a marxist professor has on his unfortunate class, but on a society wide basis. gulags will not be far behind aimed at the few individualists left. Look no farther than the nearest university where freedom of speech is nonexistant and violence is brought to bear on those who try to fight intolerance

  • This part of the “swap” needs to be drained by the average guy. Just turn the dial.

The best option is to cut your cable and bit torrent everything you want to see or hear.

I don’t hate those people. Honestly, what they do in their bedrooms, I couldn’t care about in the slightest. They deserve human rights as we all do, but never special group rights which Noone deserves. But the more these clowns keep pushing the envelope and telling the rest of us what we are supposed to think and do and feel and beleive and support, they make it harder and harder for me not to hate them.

    That’s one gigantic maw.

I don’t know anyone of any age or any political persuasion who watches network scripted TV.
