SORRY, CHRISTIANS: The Bible Fails ‘Inclusive Language’ Standards At Evangelical College

An evangelical Christian university in Minnesota is encouraging its professors to stop using words with masculine connotations — such as “man” and “mankind” — because those words aren’t sufficiently “inclusive.”

Our Father …….Oh, Lord, that won’t do.

    Hmmmm? What would mohammed do?

I’d much rather live in a freedom loving world that curbs totalitarian instincts, than in a totalitarian world that mandates away all freedom.

“…Professors at 6,000-student Bethel University should “avoid using masculine terms to refer to people who may be either male or female…”

And right after that, professors should start worrying about where they will find work, after student enrollment plummets.

Amazing that so-called Christian academic programs that are supposed to prepare the next generation of clergy do understand Biblical basics. I cannot imagine anyone who chooses to study the Bible in university, would come into it without already having a pretty strong grasp of the Bible. It really is an insult to Christians everywhere.

  • I think we’re reaching peak academic insanity now.

    Maybe that’s a good sign.

    • Art Deco

Nope. This is just one vignette in the decay of Christian higher education.

      “reaching peak academic insanity”

      Not even close.

I think colleges should just demand that all students be spayed or neutered.
That would be a win for us and them.

Absolutely unsurprising. There’s a substantial population of Vichy evangelicals and where you find them is the academy. A decade ago, S.M. Hutchens offered the opinion that Wheaton College (then suffering a controversy) was doomed as a distinctly Christian institution, and for structural reasons that would doom other evangelical institutions. I doubt many such institutions will be recognizably Christian a generation from now.

A pot, according to a pot maker, and a tale of the Arabian nights, is just a pot, and the idea of God’s gender being described using the pronoun “He” is what is present in the biblical text (I have six classes in biblical Hebrew so I can speak authoritatively on this one).

    Strip “man” from human?
What are you? I am hu.
