Trump wants UN funds cut more than 50 percent: report

President Trump’s administration has told the State Department to cut more than 50 percent of U.S. funding to United Nations programs, Foreign Policy reported.

The push for the drastic reductions comes as the White House is scheduled to release its 2018 topline budget proposal Thursday, which is expected to include a 37 percent cut to the State Department and U.S. Agency for International Development budgets.

It’s not clear if Trump’s budget plan, from the Office of Management and Budget, would reflect the full extent of Trump’s proposed cuts to the U.N.

    It’s a start…

I would love to see Trump throw the first brick from the UN building into the East River.

    It’s Christmas every day!

  • barryjr

Anything less than a 100% cut and eviction from their fancy headquarters if they fail to pay the rent just proves that Trump is a closet globalist.

    • Etobicoke_Gladiator

I disagree. A gradual approach, not that a full 50% is gradual at all, is best. Let’s take a wait and see attitude and what the consequences are of this bold move. Yay, Trump!

      • barryjr

That’s reasonable but the UN and any other globalist organization have never done anything of any value for Canada or the US and they will just continue to take take take with no return, other than some stupid progressive asshole sticking his nose in our business to condemn us for his 15 seconds of fame. Canada will continue to bow down to these progressive, dictator supporting, anti human rights assholes and the only way Ottawa will do what’s right for Canadians is if our largest trading partner and next door neighbour punts these whores to the curb. Then and only then we might get some positive action concerning these anti Canadian despots.

        • Tooth&Claw

But, but think of all the diplomats that will be out of work ! /sarc

          • Norman_In_New_York

More than that, numerous escort agencies in Manhattan would be forced out of business.

          • barryjr

They can start a go fund me page, progressives always fall for that stuff.

          • dance…dancetotheradio

What? They can’t work for $15/hr?

          • Bataviawillem

Yep, the gravy train will run out of steam and come to a screeching halt.

          • Watchman

Who is going to rule the world if the UN is dissolved?

          • ntt1

offer appreticeships in the trades ,there is a shortage and they could salvage some self respect.

          • A Hamilton Guy

But they might get their hands dirty, instead of bloody1

      • Watchman

The USA completely withdrawing from and defunding the UN would lead to the USA ending up like Israel: a whipping boy for the despots of the UN to distract their population from rising up to depose them. The US veto on the UN Security Council is about the only thing that protects it, Israel and many other democracies from the tyranny of the despots and theocracies in the UN.

The UN is now as useful as the League of Nations and has stopped as many wars (i.e. none).

        • barryjr

You are correct about the security council seat but being there only gives the corrupt group a false sense of legitimacy. The despots around the world and their enablers in the UN already blame the west for all the problems in the world and will continue to do so whether or not the US is present. There comes a time when you have to walk away and that time is now. If the terrorists and their nation state supporters want to lie cheat and play by no rules then it is time to play the same way. If these animals want to play their stupid games then go cry to the UN about how unfair the US and Israel are screw them and the UN. It’s time for the US to say screw you we are taking care of ourselves and destroy these animals and all the nations that promote and support them. If the UN continues to support the animals maybe it’s time for the UN to be destroyed as well.

        • dance…dancetotheradio

How about the United Democratic Nations?
Complete with standards for human rights and trade.
And exclusive to everyone else who doesn’t conform.
          You want in?
You’re going to have to get rid of that uGu thing.

    • ntt1

50% is only a start and more than enough to cripple many anti american programmes the money is used for.

    • DMB

Hopefully 50% will be enough to spark the corrupt bureaucrats to relocate the UN headquarters to another country one more UN friendly. I just hope it won’t be Canada.

    Source?

    • deplorabledave

      Wherever you would like.

  • Just do it.

A 100% cut would be preferable, but I assume it would never get approved by Congress if Trump went for the jugular right away…

  • tom_billesley

UN is all about patronage with other people’s money.
It’s just a globalized version of a typical leftist economy.

  • robins111

This is shaping up to be a good week. Brexit, UN getting defunded now if Holland gets smart it could be epic.

We can be members of specialized affiliates with some useful function (e.g. the World Health Organization) without being members of the general organization and we should implement such a policy immediately. Abandoning UNICEF (which you can only participate in if you’re a member of the whole) would be regrettable, but we can set up a unit within the Agency for International Development to work alongside UNICEF.

And once we withdraw, give ’em a year to get their tuchuses out of New York and another year to liquidate their immovable property therein.

    • Norman_In_New_York

Once upon a time, UNICEF was all about Danny Kaye entertaining impoverished children in third world slums while volunteer doctors gave them antibiotics. But Kaye is no longer with us and sometime in the 1990s, feminazis took over that once noble agency. Now, its principal activities are cranking out volumes of papers and reports and holding lavish conferences to weep into their champagne glasses over the suffering children.

      • Bataviawillem

UNICEF might have been helpful at some time, but currently it is a business which mane aime seems to be, extended holidays in first class hotels and sightseeing from luxury S.U.V.s

    • Drunk_by_Noon

UNICEF is a top to bottom fraud and has been for 30-40 years.
      De-fund them first!
No more aid for anyplace, or western travel for anyone in Africa, with possibly the evacuation of the whites still left in South Africra or Zimbabwe.
We are only adding to Africa’s unsustainable population explosion that will be even more cruel when they eventually can’t be fed or housed.
Africa is currently 10x BEYOND its historic carrying capacity.
      That must be addressed first.

      • Watchman

Anyone here old enough to remember the original stated purpose of the 1985 Live Aid concert? Famine in Ethiopia. Lets see how the Ethiopian population did:
        https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/37d4158c26d2b1a79ddc3d2d62f27986cc1a4b1ac8858ed3e94f0a7ceed9fbc9.png

Notice the distinct change in population growth rate starting in the mid-1980s? The conditions that created the famines that affected up to 40 million Ethiopians are still present, but now there are an estimated 104 million Ethiopians that might need famine relief – or ‘refugee from famine’ status that will demand that countries like the US accept them as refugees.

        • Tooth&Claw

Like feeding wild rabbits or deer. They exceed the carrying capacity of their own environment.

        • dance…dancetotheradio

Gee, it’s beginning to look a lot like Egypt.

        • DMB

Then they migrate to Europe, North America bringing their social, cultural, Islamic problems and draining the welfare system at the same time.

      • A Hamilton Guy

It has always been a fraud. I have never, and will ever give to the SOB s.

  • gaylord ponce

I’m afraid our asshole PM will increase our contribution to cover the loss. He’s in love with the UN.

    • Bataviawillem

He took the bait, went they suggested he would fill in for the hard missed obama.

    • Etobicoke_Gladiator

He wants to be the next ‘Grand Puba’ of the UN. In the meantime, he’s sacrificing our nation on the altar of Islam and political correctness, and basing his “policy platform” (cough cough cough) on anti-Harper and anti-Trump hard left ideology. https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/0c9bb81c3bd7ccfc5b9ccd6ffd66129c19e7b0ee89daa967df6e082c48b78a9d.jpg

When we’ve withdrawn from the General Assembly, the Security Council, &c., we ought to cut our participation in specialized international organization. There are about three dozen which are not ornamental, obnoxious or (if you don’t need a loan) officious. Stick a fork in the rest of them. (UNESCO, I’m looking at you).

  • Ed

The UN is basically a repository of extended family members of the world’s “president’s for life” where they can go live someplace nice, wear suits, act important and lobby for more foreign aid.

  • Millie_Woods

If the UN disappeared tomorrow, it would instantly improve security in the west. The general assembly has been chipping away at our societies and freedoms for the last 50 years. The whole fucking organization is corrupt, rotten to the core.

  • Bataviawillem

Don’t let zoolander hear this, he will offer to cough up the difference.

  • Norman_In_New_York

These cuts couldn’t happen to a worthier organization.

  • ntt1

A nonpoitician that has actually worked to budget as we all have to . if I want to spend more on some aspect of home life then I have to reduce spending in other areas, It certainly looks like whole areas of the beltway are pointless expensive and expendable with out anybody except the career bureaucrats ,noticing

    • dance…dancetotheradio

One of the best things about Trump is that he asks questions that others will not ask or can’t conceive of asking.
