Rex Murphy: Of tofu compost and David Suzuki’s bus — why is no one ever held to account for eco-fiascos?

Are the misnamed “carbon offsets” still around? Just to be clear, they weren’t meant to offset carbon, rather carbon dioxide. When the phrase and the program were new you heard about them all the time. Each time some ecoSaint drove a car or took a plane ride it was advertised that “carbon offsets” were bought to cover his sin, i.e., balance the global warming books. It was the old, discredited notion of “buying indulgences” updated from the grasping papacy of the Middle Ages, and applied to the current theosophy of the Earth Savers, the Goreites and the ever-jetting Magi of the IPCC.

At least the indulgences went to the church. The ‘carbon offset’ payments, in Al Gore’s case, and probably in the case all of these eco scammers, goes back to their own ‘foundations’.

I heard they were used for upgrading the residences of the Federal Fruit Fly Foundation.

Funny, that was just a few weeks ago on here I was asking if buying carbon offsets was still a thing as I’ve not heard anyone mention them for a long time. I had completely forgotten the one tonne challenge thing.

I always say/write “carbon dioxide tax” for similar reasons.
