Ladies and gentlemen, guys and gals, please don’t flag comments just because you disagree with them. Flag comments if they are obvious spam, or if you think that they violate the blog’s comment policy (i.e. grossly offensive, potentially libelous etc.). But don’t flag comments just because you’ve had a spat with the person making them. You can always downvote, if you must.

  • mobuyus

    Their is also BLOCK.

    • Yes u can block someone’s comments if you do not wish to see them, others will still them but you will not.

      • mobuyus

I enjoy a rigorous back and forth and only block what I believe to be children. I’ll have no truck nor trade with the kids.

    • The Butterfly

Is there a way to block all video clips from The View while surfing the internet? Maybe someone could create a Chrome extension for this feature?

      • mobuyus

That would be way above and beyond my technical prowess. I’m still learning this dang old computer stuff.

      • Watchman

Is this a problem for you? Do the clips autoplay, and/or pre-cache so that you are expending bandwidth when you don’t want to?

I confess that I am guilty of adding clips and pictures that i think are relevant, but i don’t put in ‘my favourite music video clip of the hour’ like I see done on other blogs.

        • As far as I’m aware no video you post on this blog will ever autoplay. I suspect Mr Ms xirselfves(?!) Goat Butterfly was talking about stuff in general.

          • Watchman

Rumor has it that The Butterfly demands the pronoun phrase ‘your caterpilliness’ as their chosen pronoun.

        • Btw, thanks for that autoplay/pre-cache tip. Although it doesn’t apply on bcf, just another way pirates are stealing bandwidth, and I thought I knew all the tricks!

      • lolwut? (Deplorable Hoser)

There’s a Firefox plugin that allows you to filter out channels
and videos with certain keywords on Youtube.

There are Chrome equivalents as well.

There are also plugins that prevent videos from auto-playing
as well, problem is advertisers tend to use tricks to get around stuff like that.

There is a Kardashian blocker… My Daily Mail has huge gaps on the front page… Thank God.

        • A “Kardashian blocker”? Are you kidding? Seriously — just don’t read any Kardashian items!

Although I guess I’m one to talk — I have just about everyone and everything blocked. Through experimentation I determined that the average website on average is connected to about 40 different websites (large MSM sites can have as many as 50 or 60 third-party sites). I block everything except what is essential for the site to actually load and provide the services I’m interested in. I also bypass whatever cloud services and connect with their servers directly.

i blocked a poster months ago because their posts were so badly written it set my teeth on edge.

i’ve only ever reported the spammers…. though I almost reported Frau Katze for not posting enough castles and cabins in the evening pics.

  • dance…dancetotheradio

What is this flag thing you are talking about?
It sounds like a shiny new toy to play with.

    • DD_Austin

It’s a button usually pushed by people whose trigger warnings have gone off
when they realize BCF isn’t quite the intellectual ‘safe space’ they demand
where individuals can retreat from ideas and perspectives at odds with their own.

Don’t play with it, you’ll go blind

      • dance…dancetotheradio

I don’t even know where it is.

        • DD_Austin

Can’t see it, well I guess the warning came too late

Hover your mouse pointer over the poster’s name
it appears next to the collapse button

          • dance…dancetotheradio

Don’t need to run to mom when I see something I don’t like.
I’ll just call them an asshole.

          • DD_Austin

Or “university student” which is pretty much the same thing

          • Isn’t it there? That’s weird. Comments keep getting flagged.

          • Hover pointer over post. Down arrow appears to the right.

          • Clink9

Can’t see any of that stuff on an iPad. Now I’m going to have to drag out the old laptop.

      • Mal

        I could always sell pencils!

  • canminuteman

Can you down vote? It doesn’t do anything when I try.

    • It does register, but not to lowly members of the unwashed public such as yourself. I can see it. It’s all in the database.

      • andycanuck

You realize how much willpower I’m expending NOT to downvote that comment; and not flagging your flagging comment in the above comment thread!

          • Dana Garcia

Those were the days… when Harry Callahan would buy a San Francisco Chronicle out of a box before blowing away a diner full of thugs.

          • I know, right?

          • andycanuck

Would someone tell me what Black Mamba’s comment says? I blocked her a couple of hours ago!

          • Jerk! You can’t read this because you blocked me. Jerk!

          • andycanuck

          • You said you blocked me. I assume you were joking. So was I.

          • andycanuck

      • Watchman

It’s an addition to the original setup due to ‘upvote/downvote’ wars, where people and their sock puppets went through every article posting down voting any posting any person they didn’t like regardless of the content of their comment. Their satisfaction was achieved by the total of downvotes they could inflict on their enemies. Disqus eliminated the user-viewable down votes to remove the satisfaction they got from just downvoting an enemy, and required some kind of written rebuttal which both takes much longer and being able to read and write instead of just being able to click ‘Vote Down’.

    • FactsWillOut

If you right-click on the downvote arrow, and select “inspect element”, you will find something that says “downvote count…” that tells you how many downvotes you have received.

      • Dana Garcia

I learn so much on this blog!

    • just_one_Deplorable_guy

If you run Chrome, there is an extension to see the amount of DV’s.

  • andycanuck

Yeah, I’ve blocked one NeverTrump dick here. It’s easy and saves alot of aggro.

  • Morticiaa

I’d like to flag myself for foul mouthed language racism bigotry and furthermore that recent bomb threat is likely backed by some psychotic leftist Muslim brotherhood group sponsored by the moron Justin and his ‘center of the bell curve’ parliamentary minions

    • You’re going to have to try harder than that, Morticiaa 🙂

  • Brett_McS

This is the perfect post for Black__Mamba.

  • Drunk_by_Noon

The only thing I have ever flagged is spam.
Even the freaks here (and you know who you are) are not as bad as what lives over at 4chan/pol, so I have a pretty high tolerance.

    • BillyHW

I think I’m going to flag any post defending women’s suffrage, because that is grossly offensive.

  • bob e

    B M .. what a great religious decree .. U iz a saint ..

  • You mean the robo-spam that inevitably appears at 3:00 a.m.? Always appears with an avatar of a pretty girl using a pseudonym like “Lilly” or something innocent. And if you sign up you are guaranteed an income of $27,000,000/hr. (twenty-seven million dollars per hour) for 2 1/2 hours of work a week, plus an entire fleet of Lamborghinis as a bonus.

Well, I must confess that I not only vote these posts down, but I report them to Disqus (flag on the right side of the post). Reason being, is because the claim is grossly exaggerated — I signed up and only received $26,000,000/hr. (twenty-six million dollars per hour) for 2 1/2 hours of work per week!

  • Everyone Else

    hunh? you can flag comments?
