Declaring Montreal a sanctuary city is an expensive mistake

It’s hard to imagine a motion more ill-considered than the one passed Monday by city council to make Montreal a sanctuary city. Welcoming illegal immigrants to take advantage of municipal and, the city hopes, provincial services will create added pressures on existing resources, and result in increased taxes or deteriorating quality of life for all Montrealers. No doubt Mayor Denis Coderre and his supporters’ hearts are in the right place, but Montrealers need to know that welcoming large numbers of illegal immigrants will cost. A lot.

  • Etobicoke_Gladiator

Maybe the Montreal political class is hell bent on turning Montreal into the world’s premiere shithole of shitholes, Paris?

That’s the only explanation I can think of, aside from taking cues from Canada’s trust fund baby communist millionaire globalist multiculturalist pro-Muslim stooge, Imam Justin Trudeau.

    • A city administrators job is to keep the city’s infrastructure operational.

Unless, of course, you are a progressive. And then you get to do what ever you want.

      • Justin St.Denis

Montreal’s infrastructure is deteriorating as we type here.

    • Justin St.Denis

Montreal is already largely a shithole. Last time we visited, our vehicle sustained over $2000 in damages due to deep holes in city streets which are virtually invisible. I couldn’t believe the change in the “vibe” of the city as well. Not a nice place to visit anymore. Pity.

Travel Tip: The city of Trois Rivieres (Three Rivers) is absolutely stunning in summer with free music and events city-wide throughout the season.

  • tom_billesley

City councillors can create accomodation for invaders at the drop of a hat.
Of course nobody is ever disadvantaged by this.
ITALIANS left homeless by catastrophic earthquakes in 2012 have now been left furious after being told new homes were to be found for 200 migrants.

    • Drunk_by_Noon

Why are they still homeless HALF A DECADE LATER?

      • tom_billesley

        It is Italy.

      • Uncommunist

Same thing is happening in Canada – no one wants to talk about it.

  • Drunk_by_Noon

“Refugee families receive $1500/mo in living expenses, and roughly $2100/mo child tax benefit (where I dont see why they should get that as they dont pay taxes). The equates to roughly $3600/mo or $43K a year for one year.
The avg Canadian annual salary is $27K”

    • Justin St.Denis

If only Canadians could be made to understand that. Won’t happen, though.

    • Uncommunist

Plus they go right to the front of any line for subsidized housing to hell with Canadians.

    • occupant 9

That sounds exactly like the deal offered my ancestors who broke the land in northern Alberta, Rupert’s Land back then.

All they had to do was clear 10 acres a year, by hand, or be deported. Same deal … right?

In sum, my ancestors, along with many others, came to Canada to break the land whereas Muhammadans are coming here to break the country.

    • John

So will Kiran Malik-Khan, cited in the article, be taking off her hijab in solidarity with non-Muslim victims the next time a jihadist pulls a ‘Bataclan’?

Why can’t these women see that they’re on a one-way street, and that there’s never any reciprocity on the part of those they so virtuously defend?

    • Bataviawillem

Let them do it in July or August and then we talk.

  • New Centurion

A no-brainer for Montreal. “Look how great we are!” “Now Canada, you can pay for it.” Trudeau’s riding is there so expect lots of federal cash to start pouring in.

Don’t laugh but I could see a refugee camp being built and supported by the UN in Canada very soon.

    • mauser 98

      supported by UN…our $$$$

    • Ottawa Eyes

I thought Dixon Road in Toronto was a Somali refugee camp?

  • FactsWillOut

Odd that this is in the Anglo Montreal paper. The Anglos in Montreal are notorious for being Liberal cronies, and would vote for a rock with an “L” taped to it.
He can get away with this because the Libs are running the province.
If the PQ were in power, he’d be in very hot water indeed.

That being said, I think Coderre’s days are numbered.

    • John

      Hope you’re right.

  • The Deplorable Rosenmops

I feel sick reading all this horrible stuff. Vow to stick to looking at cute puppy pictures. Then I read the comments and the humour and knowledge that others are just as disgusted as me keeps me coming back to read more about the destruction of our society by progressive fools and Muslims.

All Montréalers ask of mayor Corderre is that he fill the bloody potholes. This guy can’t actually run a city…be it in french OR english.., so he grandstands with illegals and traipses about the globe like a Head of State.

  • ontario john

The CBC continues its coverage of Somali warlords and pirates traveling to Canada. This time the brave reporters are in Central America, where the invaders start their trip. All the so called refugees keep saying that they are coming to Canada because Trudeau will welcome them.

    • The Deplorable Rosenmops

CBC is probably paying their fucking way. And encouraging more to come. Maybe Trudope and Merkel can be moved to an island somewhere with all the gimmmigrants they love so much.

  • Canadian Born

So the politicians are cutting their pays in half, to pay for this mess they are creating, right? Is Montreal and the rest of the cities that are doing this crazy, or just the people living there and the ones running it.

  • Observer

Toronto declared itself a “sanctuary city” in 2013 and it wonders why it has such huge budget problems.

Of course they refuse to say how much it costs to give subsidized housing, subsidized daycare, free dental and medical services and welfare payments to those illegal migrants living in Toronto. Never mind the cost of any criminal acts they may commit.

    • Uncommunist

$350 – $1000 per day per immigrant/refugee .. that’s USD too. That is my understanding – benefits, payouts, money per child, subsidized housing, etc…

    • The Deplorable Rosenmops

The rest of Canada is paying too through transfer payment. Trudope is going to overplay his hand if he keeps letting these illegals stay in Canada.

  • Kellman Amos

I live on the norther US border and can vouch for the fact that Quebec is nothing but a menace, both to US citizens and Canadian citizens. If Montreal want this illegal and “refugee” scum then they are welcome to them. I will help them get to the Quebec border if it means ridding the US of them. I don’t wish them on intelligent and civilized Canadians but Quebec doesn’t qualify as either intelligent or civilized.

    • FactsWillOut

” I will help them get to the Quebec ”
      Well then, you’re a criminal.

I’ve lived in Quebec, and I can say you have no fucking clue what you’re talking about.

    • John

Apart from the city’s growing Muslim community, I doubt all that many Montréalers–and I’m one– really want these people. The decision was taken by city council…we never got to vote on it.

And yes, perhaps some of us aren’t too bright. I’ve co-workers whose favourite foreign destination seems to be Plattsburgh…

A trip to ‘Price Chopper’ is like heaven on earth!

I really enjoy visiting Vermont and New-York
      State, by the way.

  • Let Montreal own this.

Let’s see how great summer is with unemployed masses of intolerant illegals.

    • John Boy

They like being unemployed as long as they get their government housing and generous benefits paid for by taxpayer.

      • With less money for comedy and jazz festivals.

Yes, the city council really thought this through.

    • John

The city’s 375th ( who the heck celebrates a 375th of anything?) could be graced by Paris-style riots and Car-B-Qs

      • It’s what everyone wants, apparently.

Let them endure the finger-wagging when they complain.

  • Bataviawillem

There are an estimated 40 million illegal immigrants in the U.S. that is 10 million more than there is Canadian citizens, do they have thought this through.

    • LairdKintyre

Of course not. Kind of reminds me of a lifeboat passing through survivors of a boat sinking. Sure you want to help everyone. But when the boat holds 20 and 200 people want onboard. What do they think will happen? If they had the means to get here there are at least 500 million people who’s happily try to pile into Canada. The main saving grace is the Atlantic Ocean.
