White House Blasts “False” AP Report That 100,000 Troops Will Round Up Illegal Aliens

AP reported that according to a draft 11-page memo, the Trump administration is considering mobilizing as many as 100,000 National Guard troops to round up illegal immigrants. However, the White House quickly slammed the agency’s report is “false.”  In yet another leak-counterleak example of “spot the fake news”, moments after the AP report hit, the White House denied everything.

    Fake fake fake.

I’m wondering if 4chan leaked this to the AP.

  • Observer

But without stories like this how can the Democrats convince the undocumented people and true believers to rise up and either assassinate the President or start a new civil war?

  • Ron MacDonald

Canada’s leader of fake new the Toronto Star ran that article today.

    • Alain

Gee, you mean they beat the CBC to it?

  • andycanuck

I don’t know if the figure is correct but I just saw a Tweet cite that there are only about 84,000 NG land forces in all of the U.S.A. therefore, Fake News. AP is still running with this BTW. Another Tweeter wondered if the “memo” was a ruse to catch anti-Trump leakers. If yes, then woohoo!

Regardless… a good idea is a good idea.

As far as I know it is illegal for American troops to be involved in domestic law enforcement operations. It might be necessary and it might be a good idea but, illegal so never going to happen.

    • Alain

This is not the military but the National Guard, and they most certainly used the National Guard to force what they called “desegregation”. So this kind of thing would be acceptable. Too bad it is fake news in my view.

      • canminuteman

I had forgotten about that use of the National Guard. but I would bet it was illegal too. I agree though, I think it is probably fake.

        • WalterBannon

You are incorrect on this point. Defense Support of Civil Authorities (DSCA), codified in Department of Defense Directive 3025.18, is the process by which United States military assets and personnel can be used to assist in missions normally carried out by civil authorities. These missions can include domestic emergencies, designated law enforcement support, and other domestic activities..

I was thinking of the Posse Comitatus act – exert from wikipedia below. But if you read that article it says that it does not apply to the National Guard acting in their home state.

The Posse Comitatus Act is a United States federal law (18 U.S.C. § 1385, original at 20 Stat. 152) signed on June 18, 1878 by President Rutherford B. Hayes. The purpose of the act – in concert with the Insurrection Act of 1807 – is to limit the powers of the federal government in using federal military personnel to enforce domestic policies within the United States. It was passed as an amendment to an army appropriation bill following the end of Reconstruction, and was subsequently updated in 1956 and 1981.

Technically if they said the illegals were an invasion force (which they are) then they could use the NG and regular forces to arrest and deport the foreign troops.

too bad it’s not true ..

  • WalterBannon

To bad its fake news, because it sounds like a great plan
