Saskatoon Police look to change entrance exam to diversify workforce

The Saskatoon Police Service (SPS) is working to diversify the force to meet and exceed standards set out by the Saskatchewan Human Rights Commission (SHRC). But in order to do so they’ll have to change the entrance exam.

Based on the population of Saskatoon the SHRC suggests a workplace should have the following representation in 2016:

Aboriginal People: 14%
Visible Minority Group: 11%
Persons with Disabilities: 12.4%
Women in Underrepresented Occupations: 46%

Why is it only western societies that have been infected with this diversity disease?

    • Caligula Jones

Now now. Islamic militants now use women as suicide bombers…and apparently Yazidi kids. Can’t say they aren’t trying to reach out to the under-represented.

  • Dis

What about criminals?! No representation requirements for them?! Gee… How uninclusive!!!

    • Exile1981

Don’t worry they plan to waive the ‘no criminal history’ requirement to get the 14%.

    • Slickfoot

I’m pretty sure once the right level of diversity is reached, the criminal element will be well represented.

  • “Visible Minority Group”

Can the virtue signalling be any more obvious?

  • Uncommunist

Gotta luv how the hrcs pull numbers out of their air-conditioned 37.5 hrs /week ass. Any civil service office that I have ever visited in the last 50 years is run almost exclusively by women for women and a few gay men here and there and the visible minorities out front, for window dressing; massive underepresentation of white het males – as in Unicorn level. How come the hrcs / civil service aren’t on that ? in the last 40 frickin’ years ? Why do white males pay 200% per capita of the tax base ? Why do males pay the majority of insurance premiums and yet get only a pittance of payouts – for the same injuries ?

    • canminuteman

Why would they do that when they’re anti white Marxists?

      • Uncommunist

  • Liberal Progressive

Good! That will prove they aren’t sexist or racist when they ban hiring any white cis-gendered men for at least the next 5 years.

    • Observer

You must be working in the Prime Minister’s Office.

  • Clink9

Does it matter that ANY of them are good at the job?

Such a corny, old fashioned concept.

  • Sharkibark

So the Saskatoon police force will only be 17% white male. Doesn’t matter that Saskatchewan is 81.6% white. Doesn’t matter that there is only 3.6% visible minority population. There is about 14% aboriginal population in Sask so maybe they can work up to that.

Not sure I want a disabled officer showing up to break up a domestic though…. I mean are we talking “I lost a finger due to frostbite while herding reindeer through the Arctic” disabled or “I am legally blind and suffer from PTSD” disabled?

  • frame_away

Nothing improves diversity like a police officer with mental disability.

  • Exile1981

So 83% of the future police force will be people who couldn’t make the minimum standards? I feel safer already.

If you’re considering changing the entrance exam, isn’t that a crystal clear admission that all the targeted groups don’t presently meet the selection criteria. Wouldn’t waiting for qualified target group applicants, instead of lowering the bar, ensure the hiring of quality applicants? If no suitable candidates from your target groups can pass the exam, so be it. They’re not cut out for Police work.

    • Exile1981

According to the HRC that kind of thinking is hate speech.

      • Editor

Probably, but I firmly believe that short of “incitement to violence”, which is already covered by various legislation and statutes, I have the inalienable Right to Hate. I can hate things, ideas even people if I so chose. Hate is a feeling, an opinion. How the hell do you legislate a feeling or a thought? I HATE it when governments try to do that!

  • Caligula Jones

In the words of Inigo Montoya: Standards. You keep using that word. I don’t think it means what you think it means…

  • J. C.

You know why they fill the police forces with minorities, right??? So no one will hesitate when they’re ordered to round up/kill the white folks…

    • canminuteman

Yep, the more incompetent the police are the better as far as I am concerned, because when push comes to shove, they are coming after us,
