President-elect Donald Trump on Tuesday blasted General Motors on Twitter, threatening a “big border tax” on the automaker’s models made in Mexico.

Update – Ford Cancels Plan to Build New Mexican Plant h/t Exile

  • Good for Trump.

    Long overdue.

    • Bernie

Now time to control Union Wages as well to make sure the Cars remain affordable in the U.S.

  • glasnost

I have mixed feelings about this. It’s a fine balancing act to protect “good, high-paying” jobs, while at the same time protecting consumers (and workers) from the outrageous union demands that killed the rust-belt auto industry in the first place.

    • deplorabledave

Well we better find a way around this before a govt job is the only living wage.

The best way to rein in unions is to force transparency, most people in unionized shops despise the union and its mutton headed floor representatives. transparency gives the unwilling members ammunition to fight back at meetings and dispute steward decisions made on the floor.

      • Measures Justin shot down.

        • ntt1

I am forced to pay into a union in order to work, I see the far left causes my $2000+ dues get wasted on. but any attempt at fighting back meets a total denial of records sums spent and to whom.
Ontarians are concerned about public service unions .Transparency was the one weapon that would have destroyed them. union members are just as pissed off at their leadership as any one they are at the very least not monolithic in thinking.

          • WalterBannon

only private sector union members, because you people have to be competative

public union members are left wing foot soldiers of the tyranny by the crooked, bloated government monopoly

          • ntt1

Not so ,go get to know a few, they reject the left wing crap as would anyone but they are drowned by lack of accountability by the leadership and a resulting poor showing at meetings which has allowed the real bolsheviks to grab power.

          • WalterBannon

then why did they all rally to vote for wynne???

she was put in power in ontario by public sector union votes

          • ntt1

Im nowhere near ontario but can you really claim the unions voted as a block? i would be really surprised, most unions out here have ongoing battles internally as to who they back, its often a very undemocratic choice. and on voting day the choice is often against the unions in house decision.

    • True enough.

    • WalterBannon

automation will reduce union content in all manufacturing

  • simus1

The only possible tax that can fix this specific problem is a new federal retail sales tax much like our own HST. I’m beginning to see a lot of potential in this new president guy.

  • Uncommunist

Government Motors has been riding free on taxpayers, for decades too long. Rightly, working people complain about welfare fraud and know almost nothing about massive corporate welfare – where the big money is.

    • Clausewitz

The only reason GM is still alive today is that they got Obama to force their creditors to accept 10 cents on the dollar on their debt. This never went to court because it would have been laughed out of the room.

  • LairdKintyre

Isn’t commonsense great? Isn’t it nice to turf Political Correctness and slice through the BS instead of doing a silly dance of appeasement? When will Canada finally get a real Leader ourselves?

  • Spatchcocked

Good! Now slap that silly little bitch up north around…….show him how economies grow from the heart out.
