Ohio State ram-and-stab attack wake-up call on opportunistic jihad as terror threat

The ram-and-stab terror technique seen at Ohio State is a wake-up call that the homegrown threat can be as simple as a crime of opportunity.

Al-Qaeda calls it “open-source jihad.” ISIS calls them “just terror operations.” Both organizations are invariably involved in every lone attack. Inspiration may come from a lecture by late al-Qaeda recruiter Anwar al-Awlaki and a gory ISIS video, and the DIY instructions for bombs and plots come from al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula’s Inspire magazine.
