More Americans work for government than for manufacturing now

From Terence P. Jeffrey at CNS News:

(CNSNews.com) – The United States lost 9,000 manufacturing jobs in October while gaining 19,000 jobs in government, according to data released by the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Government employment grew from 22,216,000 in September to 22,235,000 in October, according to BLS, while manufacturing jobs dropped from 12,267,000 to 12,258,000.

The 22,235,000 employed by government in the United States now outnumber the 12,258,000 employed in manufacturing by 9,977,000.More.

Reality check: We instinctively sense this. One is so often hears of people who once had jobs in industry now working for government, if at all. Their jobs are paid for by non-government workers who will eventually engage in widespread tax evasion, absent an alternative. Then infrastructure begins to decay faster. It is a historical pattern.

It is also why I am calling Hillary Clinton to win. The government jobs and the EBT cards will prevail. Even if she did not win this time, another progressive will win in 2020.

I in no way disparage people who work for government and thus have an unconscious, vested interest in high taxes and protected low productivity. Nor do I disparage people who do not pay taxes due to low income.

The problem is not their character but their position: They have no incentive to risk much to prevent waste or corruption or even criminality in government unless the latter directly affects them.

For them, it’s like living in a public housing building where the top management winks at drug dealing: I don’t own any portion of the property, I am not a dealer or a user, and not in top management. Why would I get plugged getting involved, instead of just keeping my head down?
Over time, crime rules.

This latter pattern is part of what killed Rome, not warfare with barbarians. It also may well be an enduring pattern of history.

The real question is whether the Americans are exceptional, as they so often claim. We’ll see.

They will need a government bailout plan that will see them transformed into a PR agency that no one listens to but the staff live well enough. Again, it’s not that they are bad people, they are just unnecessary people for the purpose of disseminating news.
