Liberals’ lip service to the same old jailhouse song

OTTAWA — Rewind the news reel to August, and Justice Minister Jody Wilson-Raybould is telling the Canadian Bar Association that it’s “totally unacceptable” that our prisons are disproportionately jammed to the rafters with indigenous offenders.

Those inmates are her people, after all — Wilson-Raybould herself being First Nations — and the demographic showing that 4.4% of our country’s population also represents 25% of the inmates in the federal penitentiary system is not exactly a feel-good statistic.
