The Catholic Church is struggling to keep up with demand for exorcisms because too many young priests say they are too scared to perform them, it has emerged.

Requests for exorcisms have rocketed in recent years in Italy amid calls for more priests to be trained up to take on the task.

But Rome’s busiest exorcist, Father Vincenzo Taraborelli, has warned too few candidates are coming forward because they are too frightened to learn the practice.
