Canadian Mausoleum Of Human Rights A Financial Atrocity Zone – Demands More Tax Dollars

Canadian Museum for Human Rights had almost $7M deficit after first year and wants more money from Ottawa

WINNIPEG — The Canadian Museum for Human Rights in Winnipeg had an almost $7-million deficit at the end of the last fiscal year and wants a new funding deal with the federal government.

The deficit is because of an $8-million tax bill from the city, the Winnipeg Free Press reported Tuesday.

The museum’s 2015-16 annual report tabled in the House of Commons shows the museum was in the red at the end of its first full year of operation.

This was a vanity project that the tax payer was forced to pay for, it’s a pile of virtue signalling crap.

They should put in a Muslim Human Rights Heritage section and the city will waive the tax. It happened in Toronto with the Islamic museum. And it will be funny, too.

    • Ha!

    • Linda1000

Wow, no tax on that Islamic museum with all the land for fancy gardens? Toronto must be $$ rich as it really likes giving free gifts.

  • robins111

I have the basic human right to tell them to fuck off. Collect pop bottles.

  • Liberal Progressive

The city of Winnipeg must be against human rights to charge them property taxes!

The city of Toronto not wanting to be called racists are charging no taxes to those poor people with the little Aga Khan Museum.

    • reidjr

The Aga Khan foundation is renovating the old Usa Embassy in Ottawa my guess is the city will waive all taxes.

      • Observer

I wonder if they will put in “pro-Palestinian” (ie. against the existence of Israel) art in that too like the Aga Khan Museum is so proud to display so prominently?

  • Waffle

Field of dreams. Build it and they will come — to that ever-so-great tourist mecca, Winterpeg!!!!

    • Exile1981

Is this thing down town in the part of the city that is unsafe after dark?

        It’s at the Forks.

    • canminuteman

I might go to Winterpeg, but I will never set foot in that building. Why would I ever go to a building that’s sole purpose is to tell everyone how evil I and all my ancestors are?

      I was thinking drone practice.

  • Deplorable RottyLover

That is the ugliest fucking building I have ever seen.

    • Linda1000

It does look a bit warped, ready to fall down but I’m not current on the latest avant-garde architectural designs.

      • Deplorable RottyLover

I don’t care what is considered avant-garde design. The building is fucking ugly.

        • Linda1000

Agree, I was attempting sarcasm. 🙂

    • Justin St.Denis

It is indeed very ugly – almost Soviet in its inspiration, it would seem. Just like so many other “public” buildings in Canada. I’ve noticed this over the last fifty years. It’s among the main reasons Toronto is considered to be one of the ugliest cities in the world from an architectural perspective.

      • canminuteman

There are lots of beautiful buildings in Toronto, it’s just that they are all a hundred years old.

      • dance…dancetotheradio

Have you seen the Public Unsafety Building?
If you look at the street level you will notice the wooden tunnels.
They were put up because the concrete turrets were falling into the street.
        Very ugly architecture.
Other examples are the Concert Hall, the University Centre at the U of M and the Winnipeg Convention Centre.

Native land claims ensure it will eventually become a casino.

But they apparently have some great whiny indian exhibits. Although no mention I’m sure of whiny indian history of slavery, torture, and murder of other tribes.

    • dance…dancetotheradio

There was a continuous fight over space and exhibits leading up to it’s opening as different groups jockeyed for position in the hierarchy of human rights. For instance, Winnipeg has a large Ukrainian population and they wanted recognition for the Holodomor.

  • WalterBannon

They can’t pay the tax bill now, but just wait till the maintenance costs start hitting them on that half baked structure…

  • zee

They’re in far more trouble than the article admits. Best bet is probably to turn it into a homeless shelter.

    • dance…dancetotheradio

He’s got such a good blog.
I love that he continues to hammer on Izzy Asper’s vanity project.

  • DMB

It should be turned into a monument to government waste.
