A German terror bomb suspect fled his flat just minutes before police arrived to find explosives and plans to attack an international airport, it has emerged.
Jaber Albakr, from Damascus in Syria, is still at large after police raided an apartment on an estate in the eastern city of Chemnitz, and found ‘highly volatile’ homemade explosives known as ‘mother of Satan’.
As armed police closed in on the quiet residential area, Albakr, 22, was spotted fleeing the flat. Officers fired warning shots but the Syrian refugee, who is suspected of planning a terror attack at Berlin’s Schoenefeld airport, managed to escape.
A spokesman for the Saxon State Criminal Police Office said: ‘We were preparing to access the property when the suspect left the house.’
