Trudeau gives provinces 2 years to adopt carbon price plan

A tough-talking Trudeau told MPs in the House of Commons that provinces can craft a cap-and-trade system or put a direct price on carbon pollution — but it must meet the federal benchmark or “floor price.”

“If neither price nor cap and trade is in place by 2018, the government of Canada will implement a price in that jurisdiction,” he said.

Wouldn’t it be nice if the separation of the western provinces from the rest of Canada was Trudeau’s legacy?

    • Why should Canada separate because Trudeau the hand-puppet is a douche?

      • Exile1981

Because as long as we have an electoral system that gives extra votes to Quebec and the maritimes even though their population has decreased. when Alberta’s pop went up Ontario and Quebec refused to allow Alberta to have the additional seats in the commons they should have had unless they (ontario and quebec) got additional seats as well.

        • Bingo.

The system was racked against everyone from the start.

I know it won’t happen, but the premiers should defy him and call his bluff. If the Liberals then try to push it in 2018, it could cost them the election provided that the CPC gets its act together. After all this is not federal jurisdiction to begin.

    • They will have to.

You are indeed right. Under the BNA act, resources are the responsibility of the provinces. Tell Junior to go fuck off. Remember kiddies, the BNA Act is the foundational document for Canada’s Constitution.

The Globe and Smell is reporting that scientists state that Canada creates 1% of the carbon in the world, but Canada’s forests absorb more than that every year. So why the hell do we need to fight global warming. Why, because its a tax scam. I laughed when Trudeau said today that lots of jobs will be created in the green energy field. Yeah, it has been so successful in Ontario.

    • andycanuck

The last I read we (and the Aussies) were 0.1%; you know, basically Zero.

Addendum: and only Russian forests count for carbon sequestration!

    • B__2

If more jobs are created in the ‘green energy field’ it could be because the field is so inefficient compared to oil/coal/nuclear energy generation. We could also get more jobs created in the car transportation field by mandating that a person with a red flag walk in front of every self-propelled vehicle on the road†.

A few cold years and the few remaining wheels left on the “science” of global warming will fall off.

Would that stop the Libs? I doubt it. Because the Cons also live in the land of “global warming” make believe. About the only Con willing to question the AGW orthodoxy is Maxime Bernier and, well, big boobed, HA connected girlfriend. Right?

If, as many suspect, 2016 marks the beginning of a La Nina the inexplicable (by the IPCC models) “Pause” in global warming should be back after a year and a half of El Nino. If that happens the “science will get dodgier by the month.

Meanwhile, someone should tell the Indians, Chinese and other South Asians about this global warming thing. They seem to be building more and more coal fired electricity generating plants.

The Trudeau climate tax grab will not reduce the Earth’s temperature by even a fraction of a degree because it is based on jun science and whackadoo economics.

Meanwhile federal revenue for the first four months of this year is down by $8 billion compared to last year. Liberals & NDP still don’t get the concept that lowering taxes not raising taxes actually increases revenue for the government due to the fact that lower taxes creates a stronger economic climate spurring more growth in the private sector who are able to pay taxes. Both Alberta, Ontario who are lead by socialists continue to raise taxes producing higher unemployment rates due to a loss of jobs in the private sector thereby decreasing there tax base. So instead of lowering taxes they are increasing it plus increasing spending creating a vicious cycle creating more debt with more revenue being used to pay the interest to service off the debt lowering government revenue.

If only you are correct, but I don’t see the present bunch of premiers capable of it. In fact to date only Quebec has made use of the Not Withstanding clause while all the other provinces along with the federal government have not had the intelligence nor the courage to use it.
