Choudary’s Junk Justice Sentencing

Law enforcement and counter terrorism experts in the United States and around the world are shaking their heads in collective disbelief after convicted Islamic terrorist Anjem Choudary’ssentencing in London’s Old Bailey courthouse last week.

Choudary received a mere 5½ yearsin prison after being convicted of supporting the terrorist organization ISIS.

As I have said, this sentence says he had a deal, likely for services rendered.

I think I agree, a secret deal was cut.

    • He was a snitch, explains his longevity on the outside.

      • Drunk_by_Noon

We need to get that idea out there so his own people hear about it.

        • Brett_McS

In which case he would probably serve the majority of his sentence on the pushing-up-the-daises work detail.

          • Slickfoot The Deplorable

That would save the taxpayers money for his upkeep.

  • Brett_McS

The sentence may seem light by some standards, but by the standards of UK justice I’m not so sure. I still think he rode the line until his obvious enthusiasm for IS (you can hear it in interviews) lead him to step across it.

    • He did typically keep just this side of the law but it was admitted he was not prosecuted by police on several occasions because MI5 were concerned ongoing investigations might be jeopardized.

I have often marveled at the success the Brits have had at disrupting nascent plots.

      • Brett_McS

Could be, but if so that long-running string of successes may be about to come to an end.

        • xavier

Or he’ll be lionized by the dupes and provide even more info.

My question is what leverage do the British have on him that he became their doggie? It must be some serious stuff (at least for the Moslem community’s perception)
