Liberals will waste $450M, send up to 600 troops on fantasy UN peacekeeping missions

Canada is committing roughly half a billion dollars towards United Nations peace support operations over the next few years, a commitment that includes hundreds of troops and police officers.

…sources say the leading candidates for Canadian troop deployments include Mali, the Democratic Republic of Congo and the Central African Republic.

This will be a nightmare of waste and failure.

  • “This will be a nightmare of waste and failure.”
As a former peacekeeper, I am inclined to agree.

    • tom_billesley

Their mistake is to send peacekeepers when there’s no peace, only a ceasefire.

  • The Butterfly

The only reason “peacekeeping” exists is because it makes liberals feel good about themselves.

    • Clausewitz

Ever since Lester Pearson won the Nobel Peace prize back in the 50’s, Liberals everywhere have been using taxpayer funds to try to mimic that stupid event in time.

    The best solution is …
For majority culture people to determine their own fate
Let cultures develop in their own way
as it is accepted more easily that way
Different cultures have different views on
    human rights,
    and solving problems….
    if different cultures are equal…
allow them their own self determination
We can step in with minority cultures or when it threatens our territory
(not when it threatens private enterprise)

    • Aid to Africa has been a waste for the most part.

      • ismiselemeas

Aid to Africa is the single most disastrous policy of the 20/21st century. It has allowed populations to burgeon out of control in environments that can’t sustain them leading to rampant poverty, starvation, disease and war. The locals have moved beyond cargo culture and are now demanding more free handouts and are forcibly moving to the west to take them.

        • tom_billesley

Aid is not just wasted, it often makes matters worse and more prolonged.

Our soldiers will wear silly blue helmets and stand around helplessly while Africans slaughter Africans, just like they did in Rwanda.

Makes me proud to be Canadian.

    • tom_billesley

They need boots on the ground from some wealthy western country.
Then it’s easier to assign blame and demand compensation.

      • I wouldn’t blame the Rwandans if they asked for recompense.

We failed to protect them. We stood by as women and children were killed.

        • tom_billesley

When your force deployment is to keep a peace, and there’s no peace to keep, you’re on a hiding to nothing. In the Congo operation in the sixties, it turned from peace keeping into military assistance to the new government but that wasn’t the UN remit.

          • What peace was kept in Rwanda?

I think these countries should go after the UN “peacekeepers” and sue their governments.

Maybe then we can withdraw from the UN.

        • Millie_Woods

If I remember correctly, Bill Clinton played a major role in that atrocity by obstructing rational decision making.

And while Africans try to slaughter Canadians. The muslims in these countries will look on this as a major opportunity to fight the infidel without having to emigrate here to do it.

      • And under the U.N., the blue berets will have an extremely limited ROE……….lambs to the slaughter. And all to make liberals feel good about themselves.

      • moraywatson

You get peace by WINNING ! The totalitarians have that pounded into their psyches from birth. Our leaders though are too busy bearing faux western-guilt to have an objective of winning….that just wouldn’t be ‘fair’ .

I was on a number of so called peace keeping missions as an officer, and they are done simply to make the politicians at home look good. So we are once again sending young men to islamic shitholes in Africa so feminist Trudeau can strut around the UN for selfies. Maybe he can put on a sad look for the cameras when the body bags start coming home. And I see Trudeau wants to restart relations with China when he goes there. I guess the Canadian Christian couple there, can forget about getting out of prison.
