There is nothing to stop other radical Islamic preachers taking over Anjem Choudary’s work

As the head of the Metropolitan Police Counter Terrorism Command, I took a took a close interest in Anjem Choudary. He was viewed by some as a charismatic but harmless Muslim activist, but I believed he was a terrorist.

Although he would never be found in possession of a bomb or gun, his toxic rhetoric led young Muslim men towards violent jihad. Over time, his rhetoric became increasingly offensive and I became frustrated that my command could not demonstrate the evidence required to prosecute him for terrorism in this country.
