Indeed it is. Smacks of crusades payback. Until we KNOW the who, what, when, where and why, I’ll operate in the assumption that a family of religion of peacers had some kind of argument.

    • Cat-astrophe

      Odd school…

    • Alain

      Yes, but still totally effective.

  • V10_Rob

Great, now bows are going to be rolled into the anti-gun hysteria red-tape and licensing…

    • You bet.

    • J. C.

Crossbows are already illegal in NL. 🙁

      • Alain

I think you are referring to banning them for hunting, are you not. To my knowledge they are still legal across the country.

        • J. C.

I Googled it earlier and found a page listing crossbow restrictions by province… All it said for NL was ‘illegal’. However, it’s entirely possible that’s only in regards to hunting…

    • tom_billesley

Popes in the Middle Ages banned the use of crossbows.
      Against Christians, that is.

      • Really?

        • andycanuck

          Yes.

          • Details? References, damn you and such?

(And longbows are obviously cooler than crossbows by the way. Jussayin’.)

          • Alain

Longbows are terrific and great for offensive, while crossbows are more for defensive operations – shorter range.

          • bob e

think that crossbows were designed for close quarter killing.
            like shot guns ..

          • Minicapt

No, Richard 1 was killed at a range of more than 100 yds.

            Cheers

          • Alain

Bob is still correct in his understanding for why they were created. The range depends on the draw weight of the crossbow and some now are compounds which extents their range. Still they can never match a good longbow for range.

          • Minicapt

The major feature of the crossbow was ease of use. Loading was assisted, you could hold the loaded bow for long periods of time, and the bolts were more compact and durable than a feathered cloth-yard.
An expect archer required years of practice to develop the physical stature necessary to fire the longbow in battle.

            Cheers

          • Alain

            Correct.

Scroll down a little bit for the answers; and I’ve read the “it allowed relatively-untrained peasants to kill knights” as the main reason for the (unsuccessful) banning as well.

          • Alain

            Correct.

The Liberals banned crossbow pistols along with blowguns some time ago and may attempt to ban crossbows. Let them try, they are not that difficult to make, just as one can make a crossbow pistol or a good blowgun. As for registering and licensing any of them, again let them try.

  • Exile1981

So were there any specific words being screamed by the attacker.

    • Editor

      I know I shouldn’t have but I giggled as I read that.

      • bob e

        heh eh ..

        mee too ..

    • To my knowledge there were no utterances of “Justin is great!” while the attack was taking place.

Silent assassin. Revenge killing. No snackbars. Likely totalitarian-supremacist quotient of zero. Condolences to all innocent parties.

  • full disclosure

I call b.s . Three dead , were they all just standing around even after the first arrow? Sounds like a cultural diversity incident cover up.

    • mauser 98

yes.. Xbow very slow to load

      • dance…dancetotheradio

        Waiting for more information.

      • andycanuck

Even modern ones? (I honestly don’t know.)

        • mauser 98

yes.. your boot goes into hoop at front..pull back string and cock trigger..place bolt ….takes few seconds+

          • Alain

Some do have a cocking device, but it really isn’t any faster.

          • mauser 98

they can be noisy..hunters do not like them

      • Osh

Hadn’t thought of that. So, possibly (although not probably) a William Tell experiment gone horribly wrong.

      • Alain

Yes, and that is a major drawback. I know in the movies they seem to fire them off repeatedly like a riffle, but reality is very different.

      • Gary

Must have been a second shooter in the grassy knoll .

    • Kathy Prendergast

The fact that one of the victims was a woman suggests a so-called “honour killing”, which nearly always involve more than one perpetrator. The men killed may have been trying to protect the woman. Police say the man injured is in custody so is obviously a suspect, but the injury may have been a defensive wound from one of the victims. And yes, with a crossbow it seems impossible there wasn’t at least one other person involved. Of course if the persons involved are minorities, getting any detailed information from the police or the media will be like getting blood from a proverbial stone.

      • Gary

Don’t forget that no Cops would dare stop a Dark person in islamic dress that is carrying a weapon. $90,000.00 a year makes you loyal to the Pay Check and not canada’s laws , so why risk getting fired as a racist islamophobe while trying to stop a jihad slaughter.
With 34,000,000 infidels in Canada , what’s a few thousand dead canadians by jihadists .

  • ontario john

How much you want to bet its a black guy named mohammad. Expect calls from downtown Toronto, that farmers and hunters should have cross bows registered. Its always those damn farmers and hunters rampaging down the streets of Toronto, with their guns, knives, and now cross bows.

  • Cat-astrophe

Heard an interviewwith an witness who heard the screaming etc.
Interesting thing from the interview was…………he had a Pakistan like accent.
I was wondering who may be in the local neighborhood….doesn’t really mean anything, but you know, where there’s smoke there’s fire, 1 plus 1 equals 2……just saying…
But a crossbow? did he shoot through two people at once or something??

  • marty_p

If it turns out to be a Muslim killer – for those of us in the computer industry it gives new meaning to Mobo.

  • andycanuck

The cops have confirmed that the suspicious package at Queen’s Quay (IIRC) is related to the shootings.

  • Spatchcocked

Yes Mamba…the Pope stepped in because crossbow bolts could penetrate the armour of the elites….we couldn’t have that could we….the enfanterie would just have to jog along with a leather jerkin and a felt cap.

Now since you brought up the present Pope mind if I tell you my feelings about his Holiness ? Got 5 minutes ?

  • lolwut?

    3 people?

Must have been a black AR-15 style crossbow with a high capacity quiver.

    • Editor

Like a fully semi-automatic “assault” crossbow?

      • Alain

Ah, if only such things existed I would want one.

        • V10_Rob

Actually, they do. You can get units that mount onto the AR-15 frame.

Scary black muzzle shroud, assassin’s arrow flash suppressor and shoulder thing that goes up sold separately.

          • Editor

Well, now it’s definitely going on Canada’s prohibited weapon list! I mean, look at that stock. It’s evil! Betcha it’s adjustable. Making it even more evil. My Trudeau voting ovaries hurt just looking at it.
